Logbook Question for New Hire United folks
 
For those who have been hired in the last year, I would like to know if my logbooks are set to impress at the interview (Don't have one yet, but trying to be proactive). In short, did they really care when you made the switch to electronic. My paper logbook is up to date with my electronic log imported from my company. Is this necessary or am I wasting my ink ? Thanks!

Training and two years at first airline were paper. I put sticky notes on all checkrides in the paper book. For electronic I forwarded all times as three entries (training SE, training ME, airline) (I had these totaled already on my paper book, so that's why I did it that way) indicating TT, IFR, PIC, SIC, approaches, landings etc. I made a cover page, took it to kinkos and they printed and binded it in an hour for ~30 bucks. I signed the cover page. United doesn't really discuss logbooks at interviews from my limited experience. (make sure your logbook matches your application, don't exaggerate anything)

Thank you very much for the info! Yea, I've heard through the grape vine that it will be a bad day if your stats don't align, from driving records to TT.

Yeah buddy! That's the biggest gaffe you can make on a logbook for any interview. Make sure your SE + ME = TT (unless you have glider or balloon time logged?) And that your day time + night time = TT.

How have people been logging variants of a plane? ie. ERJ-170 vs 175? I have all my time as ERJ-175 even though some is 170. Does it really matter? Do guys separate 737-700 and 737-900? I suppose I could just list it all as ERJ-170 per the type certificate...

I printed out my electronic logbook from my 1st hr to last with a United logo on front cover with heavy paper stock, yr/total hours breakdown inside cover to show I worked 800+ hrs a year, I tabbed and noted all check rides, and signed each page with a notarized statement saying the logbook was complete and accurate. They also want your original logbook with all endorsements. It was over kill but right before you walk into the HR portion the two people that are doing your interview are going through the logbook. In my opinion it tells them that you are serious and prepared. Some people have built a scrapbook of their achievements and included it with their logbook with excellent results.

You don't have to do anything other than bring your original logbooks. It does help to use every opportunity to show that you care, have an attention to detail, and want to be there. I walked in and they commented that they liked the cover. I gave my wife credit for the idea and explained that I have been looking forward to this opportunity for a long time. Sell yourself! Let them get to know you and be honest. Get your paperwork in order before they call, make your application 100% before you receive the hogan, and it will be one less thing to lose sleep over in the weeks leading up to the interview.

No need to separate, at least not in my experience with United. I just used type. That don't care about variants. When I was hired, this year, I had an Airbus type and had flown the 319, 320, and 321. I just logged as A320 and wasnt questioned.

As long as your numbers are solid and they can see what you have done I don't think they really care. If your looking to impress, electronic logbook printed with summaries of times and totals is good. I just printed mine with summaries and went to kinkos to bind it. Gave them that and my originals, they gave them back in the HR portion after taking them in the beginning of the interview with no questions asked.

I wouldn't waste to much stress over your logbook, they just want to know you can keep your records accurately and see if you would be a good fit at United.

Very impressive Aquaticus! I like that attitude. I feel the same way, in that I want to be unique and more than just the cookie cutter RJ guy that walks in. Thanks everyone for the good info...now off to go volunteer and find a job fair! Lol

A week before i interviewed i realized an error in logbook 2 of 3 that messed up every time i had up to that point. I corrected it and wrote an addendum explained the whole thing and come to find out they really didnt even look at it. Also one of my friends lost one of her logbooks and she got hired as well. So my advise if they ask you about anything just be honest if you can explain it well then im sure its a non issue
