Express Jet is all right with me!!!

Was tryin' to commute to work this am. A NWA cancellation scheduled for later this morning meant the almost empty jet becoming full in exactly 8 minutes! The CA told me that he would get both myself and an Express pre-IOE pilot on board. The XJet newbie wanted the cockpit jumpseat and the FA led me to the FA jumpseat. This crew was so friendly...they were awesome! Much love to the XJet crews!

I have noticed some tension between CAL and Express. Maybe I don't know/understand because I'm a CAL newbie. But, ALL of the pilots and FA's I've had contact with at EWR have been pretty cool!

You sat in the FA jumpseat? You're a pilot? Have the rules changed?

I've been at Express and CAL and I don't see any tension. There are very few guys on both sides who hate each other, but then again they hate everyone (including themselves).

In my 9 years at Express, I never denied any jumpseaters unless there were no more seats to give. Now I don't see jumpseaters, because I do international.

Since when does a EMB-145 have an extra F/A jumpseat?

Bloodhound 02-22-2007 10:07 AM

The 145 has the FA seat in front and a jumpseat in back. It folds out in front of the lav door. Our rules allow pilots to ride the FA jumpseat provided that there aren't FA's trying to JS.

Good on them! That's the way it used to be in this industry everywhere. When I was a new hire at Pan AM, I was jumpseating to work out of JFK down to MIA. The plane was full in both first and coach, but the captain allowed myself and two other pilots to ride in the cockpit, along with a reservationist and her non-airline employee husband. That's right, there were 8 of us in the cockpit of this 727. The captain told the purser to not allow the ramp agent into the cockpit, and for her to bring in the paperwork. So off we went. Once at cruise, the reservation gal and her husband left the cockpit and rode on the flight attendant jumpseats. Those were the days.:D

You have to be an XJT or CAL pilot to be able to ride in the FA jumpseat. Unfortunately other airline pilots are not allowed to ride in the FA jumpseat yet. Hopefully our flight attendants will sign off on it an allow anyone to ride in the seat.

This really is the way it ought to be. Why leave anyone behind when there are seats?

Jetjok- I was a gate agent for another airline before 9-11 and I've seen (and not seen at the same time) lots of things like what you described. Ahhh- the good ole days...

You don't see jumpseaters at all? Even OALs in the cabin?
