Sad news at Compass... RIP Carl Barry
Breaking news here,
Just heard Carl Barry, has passed away.He was found unconsciense at his gym last night,a worker found him laying on the floor, and checked his wallet and found his compass ID. Sad stuff, they are trying to contact his family but noone is picking up. Carl, was going through some tough times, with his family, and he had a son, and a baby on the way. Being away from his wife was getting hard on her.Obviously he had alot going on...really sad news. When it rains it pours, I know for me personally losing both Carl and my father in the same week, its just a real sharp reminder that we should be thankful for all we've got,and that life no matter how you lived it is a precious thing...To you. Captn' Barry |
Prayers and condolences are with his family and friends. Never an easy thing to hear, let alone during the holidays.
|
Please keep us up to date with any new information regarding this.
|
Tailwinds Carl :(:(
I pray that you will be reunited with your family. My condolences to your family and friends.:( |
Wow. This is a shock. You sure about this? Haven't seen anything on company email yet. Flew with Carl several times and talked to him most recently last week, he picked up a trip from me that he would've flown today :(.

Life is fragile and fleeting. Enjoy the moment for we do not know when it will all end for us. I lost my own father a few years ago. Only people who have lost their own loved ones can understand what you go through emotionally. A really ironic part is my father survived numerous combat missions only to lose his life through a car accident. It took over a year for me to actually start my grieving for him because I had to be strong for my mother.

Sorry to hear that.....funk, it appears that you are former MG ? I was there till the end |
Don't you think you should refrain from posting his name on here until next of kin is at least notified? Can you imagine finding out a loved one is dead from a fourm?
RIP... |
That was my concern originally, but then I found that his family wasfinally reached.

@Embraerflyer - That was an email sent to me ..so yes I'm positive someone in his family was told by CP!

It is a sad sad day. Carl was a great pilot and a good friend. It's terrible that this has happened to a great person. My condolences to his family.
|
I just had a friend pass away over the holidays, and now Carl... man life is short and fragile. It really makes you think about how petty some of the things we wrap ourselves up in are.
My deepest condolenses to his family... |
It really makes you think about how petty some of the things we wrap ourselves up in are. I remember Carl and I worked a Stand-up to Regina. And the whole ride all he said was "Who the hell names a city Regina?" and from that came "Forget Missoula, I'm working a regina tonite!" and "Its pretty late, we chould call Regina control, and make sure it stays open!" and a host of other Stupid-funny punches...HE will be missed by all. |

Carl flew 1900's for AirMidwest up in Messina NY. Nice guy, real shame. Smooth skies Capt Barry.

Me and Carl
I was based in Massena, NY with Carl we flew together almost everyday for about 4-5 months. A great Pilot and good friend. I just talked with him last week. We were like a maqrried couple together all the time. And we flew in the **** and it was was always fun. Man I will miss him!
|
He will be missed,
I remember having a gear malfunction with him from Pittsburgh to Watertown enroute Massena....The local press wrote about him on landing as the pilot had to be escorted to the bathroom, from all the water he used to drink in that Mighty Beech (with no lav).... That was Carl Now he has flown west....... Rest in peace Good Friend. |
Terrible news!!! Just talked to him in the crew room last week. Carl was a genuine good guy, God rest his soul!
|
Oh, man, this is a bummer. I just flew with Carl last week. Dealt with a lot of crap in a four day trip, and he was great in every respect. RIP Carl, you will be missed.

good ole' Carl
Carl and me....
Carl and I did **** tests together after we hit a deer on landing at 3 am in the morning in ART. I remember him not being to happy about it and wondering how the deer got out of the **** test? Carl back in the day got more phone numbers from hot chicks than anyone I know as they got off the Beech in some God awful places. Seeing is believing and that was what I saw more than a couple of times. Carl after hitting a deer in ART with me and smashing a coyote on the takeoff roll (aborted takeoff) in Ogdensburg and totalling a Beech (144) everybody was safe, says one day " I am against hunting I love animals" I asked if he had told the deer and the coyote that? Carl sleeping on a 5 and 1/2 feet air matress in LNS was funny! Carl drop kicking my coffee all over the console of a beech on our flight back to ART from PIT as he got into the FO's seat and without missing a beat says " Are you ready for the Before Start checklist?" Man I loved the guy, he made laugh, He was a great stick and fun to fly with in the beech weather. You will be missed my good buddy. Flaps up Yaw damp ON! |

How sad, was Carl a younger guy?
|
Fairly young I think, mid-30s I'd say. Not sure on exact age.

Carl was a nice guy. Very sad indeed.

When I first flew with Carl, he was all about teaching and passing on his knowledge on to others. He taught me some very important things: 1. Trim is very important. 2. Be proud of your job and accomplishments. 3. Passenger comfort is very important and do everything you can to make the ride enjoyable. Those things I will never forget.

Carl Barry
When I first met Carl, he was a new hire at AMW, they sent him to me to evaluate, as they thought he wasn't good enough. He was scared, tight in knots, emotions, but mustered the gumption to surprize everyone. He studied, steadied himself, and came through shining... He became a friend who showed me that when we least expect it, we are taught by others how to live. Little did I know that while I thought I'd teach him how to fly, he would teach me how to hope!
Carl, I'll miss your spirit and your voice! Rest well, Captain! |
I was in Carl's new hire class at Air Midwest, and knew him as a stand-up guy. We celebrated passing the systems test with a trip to hooters, he always had a way with the ladies... You will be missed my friend.

:D Epic. Guys like this are the reason I love flying. Carl I didn't know you but I sure would've loved sharing a cockpit with you. Lots of Buds in the fridge. I'll be drinking to his memory.

hey guys. Carl was my cousin and I am really moved by all the comments on here. Especially the little stories are very warming. It makes me even more upset that I didn't meet him last time he was home in Ireland but that smile of his will always live in my memory.:)

Amazing, his passing has been in my thoughts since I heard. I don't have any specific stories of Carl, only of many morning "union meetings" spent at Charlies and Madison Ave Bakery in the A concourse at KPIT. I think both stores are closed now and the concourse where we parked the beechs is walled off, place is a ghost town. Carl would find that sad. Anyhow, Carl always had something to add to the day. Funny guy with a pleasant personality no matter how bad the situation was. Hyperboy said it best to our friend, Flaps Up, Yaw Damp On.

Godspeed Carl... |
I really enjoyed messing with Carl. I am sure those that have verizon like I do know he would always confirm with you that you still had verizon just as the conversation started cause he was a man that enjoyed talking to his friends and family on the phone and burned through his monthly minutes. There was always the time (twice) he would call and forget to confirm, so we would talk for an hour peak time and at the end of the call I would let him know how happy I was with my new sprint PCS phone plan. At that point I would not hear anything, until I told him I was kidding and we would start laughing. Carl, I will miss your calls buddy. I can't thank you enough for the great memories.

I have to say this one hit me a little hard too. I worked with Carl at AMW as well and I remember when I was a new hire getting ready for the sim in ICT and he was a great help to me and some of my class mates. In fact I found him to be such a great guy that I wrote a letter of recomendation for him here at CMP and also talked to him several hours on the phone letting him know anything I could to make sure this great guy got the job here. He was hired and was in a class right after me. I haven't seen him as much since we are in different domiciles, but I will miss running into him in the crew room up north.
Carl and his family have been in my thoughts since I heard about this unfortunate incident. Everytime I think about it I get that lump back in my throat. I have never flown with a nicer guy. :( Tailwinds Carl |
Carl
It was great meeting some of the Compass pilots up in MSP for the viewing. It was great to tell each other our stories. Carl clearly left an imprint on so many peoples lives.
Carl and I flew plenty of bids together. We always had fun and were all about the Passengers. I am glad to have met himmand kept in touch with him when he left for Compass. This one hit home very close to home. I will never forget all my great times with Carl. Fly West my friend one day we will join you..... |
