DELTA to merge in 2008

I think you already know the answer to this but just in case.... USAIR was not the dance partner Delta was looking for. Delta still isnt that anxious to merge with anyone but probably will in the end when looking at the strategic reasons for doing so (ie Asia).

I'm not familiar with all the airline codes but I assume ALK is Alaska. I understand your comment was TIC but I'm interested in what a DAL/ALK merger would like. I have heard some people at DAL say that this would be a great combination. Any thoughts?

Most the guys/gals I have talked to at Delta have said this is one merger they could for the most part embrace. Nice to have more flying out west. Having said that I dont think this has much chance at this point. If it were to happen it would be after a merger with NWA. The ability to reach Asia and push domestic prices up will require something larger than Alaska.

I doubt it would be United...but last time I checked United had some major Asian flying as well.
NWA seems more plausible, though, and would make for a much more seamless merger/buyout.
Anyone have any thoughts on what the implications would be of a DAL+NWA merger/buyout for drivers at the affiliated regionals?
I guess this depends on whether we're talking about Mesaba/Comair or one of the feeders like ASA or 9E...but would a merger have a negative or positive impact on hiring/growth/etc.???
