1. I have heard the Delta pilot union has a large scope, what is this scope?

2. Why don't the pilots just say that they do not want to merge?

3. I have written my senators to tell them that I do not think a merger between Delta and Northwest is in the best interest of (me) the American consumer. Has anyone else that is not in favor of the merger written their congressmen?

Thanks for your thoughts

Cheers
Tedspal,
Congratulations and welcome aboard. The DAL MEC has come under a lot of heat over the last couple of years, but overall I think they have done about as good as could possibly be expected. We had a no furlough clause and I was furloughed, but then I was called back based on the no-furlough clause ( I think the company also needed pilots) but the Delta pilots paid for health coverage for furloughed guys and I thought that was great. Basically anyone who actually knows anything that could answer your questions is not allowed to talk about it. A lot of guys on this forum will post some good insight, but we just have to wait and see. I for one think you will be OK - we are still hiring with a merger coming and so is NW. I woud prefer no merger but will hope for the best and stay in the Navy reserve.

I still want to know how merging two airlines is going to help with rising fuel costs. Is it that if there is one airline that's less competition which could lead to higher ticket prices? Or do they think they could park domestic airplanes(i.e.-9's and -88's) while farming more flying to regionals? I hope ALPA is working the agreement to include avoiding that.

I'm not a businessman, but I don't know if the pro's of this deal would outweigh the con's. It may look great initially, but who knows what management would try to change after it's a done deal. I don't trust any of em, DAL, NWA, AA, CAL, UsAir. Seen them burn their employees too many times. Any insights?

Gents,
All I can say is hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst. No merger is a good merger for the employee groups. Somebody has to get the short end of the stick, unfortunately. Somebody has to be Junior to and I just wish everybody the best of luck and hope for no Furloughs. Good luck to all.

Pros and Cons? Fuel prices, employee morale, pensions, etc. are all afterthoughts of a merger. Primary concern was, is, and always will be shareholder return on investment.
