Actually the Shanghai service starts this month, on the 30th. A few years back we did LA-Hong Kong on the MD-11, but it did not work out. The manglers were told it was the wrong airframe but tried it anyway, what a surprise that we had to go with a reduced pax load in order to make it.

DAL Dude...If all you want to do is take ATL or LAX pax to NRT or other asian countries you can do that with the -777 or 787. So with out the ability to pick up Japanese pax in NRT and take them to SIN or MNL you'll be stuck with flying 225 seat airplanes flying US passenegers. Certainly do-able. The NWA connection comes from 5th freedom routes picking up a Japanese national and taking him to SIN or NRT. That's why you need the merger, and we don't

It seems like AMR has built a very respectable Asia network the old-fashioned way- one route at a time. It takes a little bit longer, but ultimately yields better results. No SLI problems, an all Boeing (3 type) fleet, and no need to spend vast sums of money replacing aged airframes.

The problem with this line of thinking is NW is parking DC-9s and Delta is looking to enlarge the fleet by adding a number of MD-90s. The Delta aircraft are up to 20 years newer, carry up to 50 more pax, have higher pay rates, and we currently have 135 with more to follow.

Alright, my bad on forgetting the maddogs. The MD88/90s are scheduled to be around another ten years or so. The fact remains, though, that our fleet is a much simpler one without a merger.

DAL does fly to Hong Kong. Abet for MTC heavy checks. They fly empty 767's from ANC to Hong Kong and back.
I do know that there are a lot of red dots on the map in the Far East that DAL plans on serving. The merger would let them do this now not later. That is why there is such a big push for it.
DAL also does not want any type of fence due to the fact that they want to realign the equipment as soon as they can. There will be 777 out of MSP and DTW and 400's out of ATL and LAX as quickly as they can make it happen.

Glad this is going to membership ratification. Nobody at DAL is going to vote for this and in case no one bothered to notice, the DAL pilots are the majority.
