This is getting really interesting. The suspense is killing me. Ah, where's my crystal ball when I need it.

It sounds as though the both airlines respective MEC leaders decided to meet to discuss between themselves and not some negotiating committee so that cooler heads could prevail and come up with a possible SLI. Just my $0.02.

Keep in mind even if the negotiating committees agree on an SLI, they are not going to publicize anything until DAL and NWA officially announce they are merging. We all seem to forget that their are no "official" plans to merge at this point...

I agree -- they could be merely "going through the motions". Refusal to come back to the table would be politically hazardous for either MEC, even if there's no hope of an agreement. If there's a merger anyway, subsequent troubles would be blamed on their failure to cut a better deal when they had the chance. Disgruntled pilots will never believe that an arbitrated list is the best they could have gotten.

On the other hand, it is possible that "somebody blinked".
