What does a "3.5% equity stake" equate to for an individual pilot?
|
Elements of Letter 19 include:
A three and one-half percent equity stake in the merged Company in fully tradeable stock at the close of the merger Annual pay raises beginning with a five percent raise on January 1, 2009 and followed by four percent raises every January 1 through January 1, 2012. On January 1, 2011, Delta pilot pay rates will exceed the Letter 46 rates, without even considering the equity each pilot will receive. A one percent increase to the DC Plan contribution rate beginning in January 2010. Furlough protection—with certain exceptions, no pilot may be furloughed as a result of the merger for a period from merger announcement until 24 months after the close of the merger. An increase in the full-pay sick leave bank from 240 hours to 300 hours. The ability for a pilot returning from disability to refill his full pay sick leave bank once every four years instead of once in a career. An increase in 737-700 pay rates to match the 737-800 pay rates. In return for these improvements, we would provide various modifications to our scope clause to enable Delta to proceed with the merger. For example, we would allow the Company to place the Delta code and brand on Northwest flights on an unlimited basis after the close of the merger, provide greater flexibility on minimum block hour protections during the merger process, and permit the Company to retain Northwest’s large stake in Midwest Airlines (previously purchased by Northwest Airlines) while maintaining their separate operational status. |
Furlough protection—with certain exceptions, no pilot may be furloughed as a result of the merger for a period from merger announcement until 24 months after the close of the merger.
Does that include guys still on probation? |
yes--you are protected by the contract.
|
But as I understand it, I think letter 19 only covers all pre-merger Delta pilots, basically everybody that was hired before Apr 14th? Is that correct? Or perhaps the date of the actual close of acquisition? Or would they continue to cover the next 2 classes coming up before hiring stops for the summer/fall?
I think it's a very legitimate question to ask our LEC guys for our future brothers/sisters in our DAL family. |
True. They are available to take calls and will be in the lounges this week.

Hi!
Another poster said $80K per DAL pilot. cliff GRB |
If it is divided evenly.

"Furlough protection—with certain exceptions, no pilot may be furloughed as a result of the merger for a period from merger announcement until 24 months after the close of the merger".
The reason? It will take that long to park DC9's. Then the furloughs will follow after the SLI. Count on it. Listen to RA and Bastian. I am an optimist, but their language is carefully crafted to NOT say anything about hub closures or furloughs. Listen to their words carefully, the devil is in the details, which are not worked out yet. Shoot first, then aim. |
Also, the scope language is a very slippery slope. This new language will also include relief for Midwest Airlines. Joe Kolshak is their VP of Operations, formerly DAL.
Do not believe for one second he doesn't smell blood in the water. He was very anti-pilot, even though he was one. Go figure! I will wait for more details on the language, but this may open a can of worms with regard to the gap between DC9's and the MD80's and soon to arrive 737-700's. |
The alternative would be to keep the current scope with regard to Midwest Airlines and force their sale. Do you know anyone who might want to buy them? Perhaps a airline with a hub in Atlanta? Smart move on DALPA part to not force the sale.

Airtran's liquidity is not very strong, the credit market is drying or has dried up. So if Aitran wants Midwest, let them have them for price. The US market is much weaker than when Airtran tried to buy them. A LOT has changed. If DAL/NWA are afraid of competing with a US domestic carrier, then we have a lot to worry about............ With that logic, I guess DAL ought to buy Airtran so SWA's can't. |

What does "with certain exceptions" means. Who is the exception exactly? |

What does "with certain exceptions" means. Who is the exception exactly? War, natural disaster, strikes, grounding of an entire fleet by the FAA, etc. etc. |

What does "with certain exceptions" means. Who is the exception exactly? That what the lawyers tell them to say so that they cannot be sued for saying "there won't be any furloughs" in the event there are... |

I thought the equity is just DAL stock distributed among the ranks. Correct me if i'm wrong. I don't think it's a payout like the pension bailout during BK.
|
wise crack alert !

No. DAL is doubling the 777 fleet by next year. That means they need 400 additional pilots just for that. For every 10 777s you can add roughly 400 pilots. They are also getting more 737s and 757s. NWA is getting the 787. There will be a requirement for more pilots. And BTW, what furlough protection do you have at your airline that's ironclad?
Hope it doesnt turn into another AWA/USAir deal. |
