Why DAL's proposed ratio is inequitable

Lump sum would help
If a retirement plan is properly funded, a lump-sum option shouldn't incur any actuarial cost; the payout is offset by reduced future obligations. But many plans are not fully funded, and use wildly optimistic projections for growth of the fund's investments. This makes the company's books look better in the short term, and is why a lump-sum option will be resisted. Too bad, because many senior pilots would take it if they could, greatly easing the SLI problem.

DAL Veritas Issue 1
Any comments ? I just finished reading the first issue of Veritas, DALPA version of the failed negotiations with NWA ALPA. Who to believe? I have .pdf copy but unable to figure out how to post on this forum. Can anyone else post?

There is now a second Veritas out now concerning the recent message about the hearings at Congress. I know that one is correct. As a NWA pilot told me the MEC knows they screwed up and now its cover your butt time. The joint contract had 3 out of every 4 dollars going to the NWA side with fewer pilots there. With the time value of money no matter how the SLI turns out most NWA pilots will have lost income that will not be replaced. The one bright spot is that I am hearing rumors that management is having second thoughts on the whole merger. Perhaps we can both shake hands and go our separate ways and all be happy.

I am not to sure that management will back away from this one. Too many people with their hands in out wallet want this to happen.
The only way I could see your statement hold true is if UAL is willing to be broken up. Either way we have interesting times ahead.
