Default Upgrading to Captain

Has anyone out there in forum land run into any issues during their upgrade training? If so, can you please share on this post? What advice, beside reading the CFM and GOM, can you offer? Any and all feedback is appreciated.

By then you should have handle on aircraft, just practice being standard with flying and call outs. Dont get lax with it. I'm laziest pilot in company but I try to always challenge myself with staYing standard as much as possible. I'd pick up trips in OTHER bases because I knew I was not familiar to keep the challenge going plus it's fun to shake it up every now and then. I read a little of the GOM every trip that was longer than 1 hour when I mean a little I would read like 2-3 pages if that. Does not seem like much but over the three years I've been here. Not once did I have to study the GOM at home and still gave me plenty of daydream time to look out the window and BS with captain in flight lol. There is also a GOM study guide out there if you need it PM me. Every now and then then I'd peek at QRH at things we normally don't see in the miscellaneous section. I've flown with with almost all the FOAN's First Officer Automatic No-fly captains
From you will need a mirror for this guoD smailliW in PHX to gnoL nhoJ in DC. Those 2 are just super standard and if you have flown with either of them and they don't correct you. Your probably more than ready, I'm not talking personality issues I'm talking simply flying and being ready for captain. Your a professional now so you should at this point know your weak points hit those the hardest. Write down the positive things your captain does and also write down the negatives. A year is plenty of time to get Ready a little at a time each trip. Good luck hopefully it helps

Start reading the GOM now. In my upgrade class 2 people immediately washed out because they failed the GOM test.

take it step by step.
First up, as said- KNOW the GOM. There IS a test; it IS hard, and people do fail.
After that’s complete, focus on the GOM material they’re teaching in class; and your aircraft systems. The oral will be a combination of those, dependent on the examiner (some focus more on GOM, some more so on aircraft systems/limitations)
Then focus on your EPCs and call outs for sim. KNOW what’s on the EPC checklist (so you’re not asking your partner to reference the EPC for something that isn’t there) and be familiar with the QRH.
The first day in the left seat, your muscle memory will be completely screwed up- don’t worry, by sim 2 it’s better and better.
Get through all that for the checkride.
Then move on to IOE.
People fail- where? I’m not sure, because you can’t just walk up to someone you know was awarded upgrade and is an FO and say “what happened?!” I’ve heard many struggle with single-engine sim stuff.. I’ve heard of a couple who couldn’t get past IOE and fed ride.
But, keep your wits about you and focus and you’ll be fine. It’s FAST. Staying on the same airplane you’ll go from day 1 of class to checkride in roughly 17 days, be on IOE 2 days later, signed off as early as the following week.

This is why I don't fly MESA.

Why is that, and what do you mean you don't fly Mesa
