Standing bid is out....

The Ejet upgrade dropped to 3 months from DOH. Very close to street captains on the Ejet. I am sure if a new hire would have shown up with 1,000 hours 121 time, the upgrade would have happened.

The CRJ has basically the same upgrade timeframes.

No wonder I see XJet and other regional FO’s coming over to Mesa.

Interestingly, no Captain transfers from the CRJ to the Ejet or vice versa.

There wasn’t a capt to captain transfer this bid. I’m thinking about it tho I want more cpp information

Do you know why? I thought the contract required these and one per month would end up being the minimum awarded.

Sounds real safe there Mesa. I really want to fly with a very inexperienced captain. 3 month upgrades may sound great but I would not want to be on that aircraft!

As a FO, I agree..... we got guys coming over from Xjet (CRJ or 145), learning to fly a 175, and upgrading nearly immediately.

Given that Envoy and SkyWest also have street captains, I think this is more of a statement on the industry in general than Mesa.

This isn’t Mesa specific. Just about every regional is upgrading at 1,000 121 hours. These 3 month upgrades are individuals coming from other 121 carriers.

1% of the pilot group per year. 12 last year and 12 more this year. Then, 20% of slots per standing bid. If there were no slots this bid, then I’m thinking we’ve hit 24 and there won’t be any more transfers until next year.

I track the standing bid every month. There is no way we hit 24.

I just did some checking on 175 programs: Compass is upgrading at 28 months. SkyWest is upgrading at 37 months. Republic is upgrading at 29 months.

A 175 program upgrading in 3 months is not the industry norm. Upgrading on a 145 or a CRJ in 3 months is pretty common.

Hou757 07-31-2018 11:21 AM

Sorry, but upgrading in 3 months in not safe. That is not the industry norm. I would say at least 18-24 months at a minimum with average flight time is more the norm.
