I believe it. Most of the FOs I've flown with lately, I would NOT rec for upgrade. Good talent is dwindling.

While reserve rules could always be improved - everywhere - ours are on the good side of all the regionals I've looked at. Way better than Sky West and many others. There are some with better rules - sure - but ours really aren't terrible. The crew room in IAH I have not seen though.....
Easily the worst reserve I've ever dealt with. Whoever mentioned that if the reserve conditions were made significantly better, more quality FO's would be inclined to upgrade . . . I agree wholeheartedly. Between certain crew schedulers, supervisors, and (wannabe) union reps - the company tends to bully good people into not wanting to come to work - especially on reserve. And I am not the only one who has expressed this opinion. It's like the old saying, 'the beatings will continue until morale improves.' |

1000% incorrect (in my experience).

At least someone else besides me understands what quality reserve could be if the company actually gave a damn. Our union is 100% useless. They should’ve never presented this POS contract to the company. I unfortunately wasn’t here to vote, but it would’ve been a NO. They wrote the contract in hopes people would just accept it and vote it in. The pilot group who voted yes is almost as much to blame. There should be limits on ready reserve..max of 5 hours limited to once per reserve block, and minimum 75% pay. Not this crap of 50% pay. The aggressive pickup is already 8 months overdue. Crickets from the union on that. On the last day of a reserve of they shouldn’t be allowed in to assign ready reserve. It should be a FLIGHT assignment within 15 minutes of block in or automatically released to days off. None of this crap of fly back to base early and sit on ready. But, this is Mesa. It’s always been and always will be the bottom feeder of the regionals.

Agreed people need to grieve the aggressive pick up. There needs to be more long call reserve and we should have never given the company the ability to put us on ready after a flight terrible. And yeah sounds like iah is worse that’s sad. It’s a huge base. But don’t worry JO is focused on the next company party.

I remember getting gift cards to Fry's on Thanksgiving to purchase a turkey. When for the East coast boys the nearest Fry's was a two-day drive..lol..

Don’t get me wrong. I’m
Not defending the company. I am realistic enough to recognize it for what it is. Woefully understaffed. Reserves wouldn’t be so abused if we had staffing. That said we are better staffed than anytime in recent history. The dfw reserve grid for Fo Was green for a large portion of December. Things will get better two (by 16 pilots) when we idle 2 crj 900 on the American side - which is happening according to SEC filings - to use as spares. Not wanting to sit reserve may be reducing upgrades - I’ll grant that.

I realize SAP doesn't do anything for you if you're on reserve - but even if you're near the bottom of the list (but off reserve), this helps tremendously. There are so many little things they could do if they weren't so hostile toward their pilots. Little things that would make a world of difference. Like severely limiting the endless ready-reserve (as you mentioned). I've been around this industry for quite awhile. I have never, never, never seen such a pathetic contract pass. Nor have I ever seen a union endorse such a ridiculous TA. It's almost as if they were TRYING to make pilots choose another regional. |
