Newbie Questions
Hi guys. Couple questions from a guy with a class date. These aren’t the things you can look up easily elsewhere:
1. How soon until you can hold weekends off on the CRJ side? Particularly in DFW/PHX.
2. What’s the average schedule like? Or at least how many days off are FO lineholders seeing?
3. What’s the deal with the American contract? I know they pulled 2 planes but my understanding is that it could’ve been worse. Are folks assuming American flying is done after 2021?
Thanks!

Very unlikely Mesa keeps the American flying. American wants to open a PSA base in Phoenix and fly the CRJ's in house.

PSA in Phoenix? I call BS on that. Probably will be Skywest that takes over that flying

People talk about the loss of American flying like it's a given. My understanding is that the contract doesn't end until 2021. I know Mesa can lose a few planes before then per the contract, but is it really a sure thing that Mesa is losing American in 2021?

Is it Taxes? No.
Therefore, it is not a sure thing.

I always ask the new guys why Mesa and for the most park it’s for PHX/DFW and that you fly and accumulate hrs here with a short stint on reserve. Some guys say they fly in 3 months what friends at other regionals on reserve do in a year.

"MESA faced operational issues that included a ground damage incident and longer c-check turn times on its CRJ-900s. This resulted in three of its planes being sidelined for the entirety of the third quarter. More bad news followed after an industry-wide failure left MESA unable to meet the performance criteria under its capacity purchase agreement (CPA) with American Airlines (AAL), causing two planes to be removed from the agreement...
... prior to the operational disturbances, MESA had a 99.6% controllable completion factor, exceeding the requirements of its American agreement."
For those in the know, does that sound about right, or are there longer-term performance issues on the American contract?

The markets seem less pessimistic about Mesa's American flying:

Not sure what your idea of pessimistic is, but I for sure dont want to be part of it.
