By at the latest 2024, at the earliest summer 2021. Maybe extreme late spring 2021 but Mesa would have to get damn lucky and pick up flying from departed companies for that to be a thing.

Realistically, it’s tough to say. I can tell you that the reason the CRJ-700’s will be parked in IAD and not taken by GoJet is due to reduced flying. People can’t fly into and out of large cities still. Companies are not sending employees on road trips right now. Volume is down. The current quantity of pilots remains, so for there to be hiring, flying would need to increase over the old pre COVID levels to justify the growth. Pre Covid Mesa was losing 35-40 pilots a month to Low cost carriers and cargo, some legacy.... Those people are now not moving on, so in essence the only way openings will become available are through people quitting or retirements. Not too many retiring on the top. If I was to guess worst case scenario, Mesa won’t be starting up training until Spring at the earliest. This is assuming things stay on the same track. They will probably open only due to available spots because most people will be quitting once they realize the lower MOU pay kicks in. For example right now I am making 500 a week after taxes. Paying rent, car payment, student loans, electric, etc that doesn’t leave much room to live off of. The only guys that will be able to stick it out will be the “hobby pilots” as I call them. Generally good dudes, but the ones that can stay here and fly for free. Honestly, I would go find a skydive pilot job or SIC in some King Air. It’s probably the best bet you have right now unless you are a CFI. Also check out “ISR pilot” jobs. Right now is probably the worst time to be thinking about Part 121.

A- Flight School
B- Regional
C- LCC
D-Legacy/Cargo

———->
A - B - C - D

If Legacies are furloughing 2000 pilots, which is about 2.5 years worth of retirements.... LCC’s and Regionals can’t get hired on.

Long explanation, but I would say 3-4 years before you are seeing the spike in hiring precovid.

Now this is my own opinion, and just that. What’s the point of even being at a regional if you are only flying 10hrs a month? Better off flying somewhere else to build time I would say. There has to be some rich people that need a jet pilot? Maybe Learjet or something to SIC on.

The understated comment in the town hall was the possibility of new flying from "other partners". WHO?
900s for Delta? No. 900s for ????? United? No - scope. American? No - scope. Unless we make them 65 seaters with more first class seats for returning business travelers. No - Covid. The only companies departing are all flying 50 seaters.

Or Dying. The seniority list has moved for deaths recently more than anything else. And it's really really sad. I feel for the families.

BECAUSE they do NOT want to furlough. There's nothing on the immediate horizon increasing flying but there is 6 months down the road. They WILL furlough, at least a token furlough, if they get no concessions. This is a move by the company to coerce concessions for the short term. They even said so - 3 month at a time. They ARE going to reduce payroll costs - with or without concessions. The question is - downgrades and furloughs or concessions.

No concession. I don’t want to get called back to make 60hrs * $36. Screw that

Little tip for the guys like me less than 2 years... The company is not going to honor the $20k if you don’t make Captain by then in your bonus contract.

lets do Spirit Express, or maybe we’ll get lucky and fly Frontier colors, be the LCC to the LCC.
