Maybe this is out there and I don’t have any idea what I’m talking about but it makes sense to me. If I’m the big boss and I think we’re definitely losing the AA contract, the first thing that comes to my mind is that we’re hosed bc we’ll be ridiculously overstaffed - mass layoffs, retraining, company paid moves and on and on. Or, you could just the whole thing burn on the AA side, watch the mass exodus happen as most of your people leave for other airlines, and intentionally do little to nothing to attract new hires. Fly the 175 for United, 73 for DHL and lease out the rest of your aircraft to some startup in Europe. And you still have a cheap underpaid and smaller pilot group. I’m sure there’s a lot wrong with this theory so flame away but sounds right up Mesa’s alley.

AA is paying for new interiors and "proper" USB installations. They are not going to remove Mesa. The struggles are at every regional. Only Republic has any excess capacity and it's going away soon as well. The CRJ's are not going anywhere and MIGHT actually increase after we get through the parts and staffing difficulties both of which are temporary issues. This is a bad look because of the timing but it's probably not going to result in the loss of the CPA. Worst case we lose 20 - then retrain people on the E-Jet - the company only has to pay relocation for involuntary displacement - to get what I want I'll mark voluntary and get it.

Mesa has always staffed lean. They will be among the first regionals to falter with the industry-wide recruit/retain issues.
Kirby’s recent cranky-flier interview is instructive. “Our regionals can’t staff all the flying so we just take what they can give” is basically what he said.
