That’s exactly what the email said. United doesn’t put enough water on for the crews to take it on their overnights. No mention was made of drinking it in flight. Just don’t take it off the plane.
At other airlines flight attendants have been fired for taking milk and juice. With the glut we have of FOs I’d be cautions if I were a thirsty FO. Except on the 737. Water for crew is a contractual requirement.

So open it in flight, drink a bit and then leave it to be thrown away..but don’t get caught taking it off the plane! That makes total sense. Sorry but if you can’t see how ridiculous this is I’m not sure what to say. Tap water in some of the crap hotels we stay at- I’m not touching. I also don’t feel like having to carry along an extra heavy bottle with a filter because people flying around jets aren’t worthy of a bottle of water at the end of the day. 4 bottles- obnoxious. One? The company needs to pick its battles better. Or just file for bankruptcy? It’s getting embarrassing.
My posts are dripping with sarcasm. Unlike your hotel water bottles.
on a serious note my filtering water bottle is lighter than the United ginormous water bottles on the plane.

Let’s also not forget the days of the listeria outbreak at the Mesa hotel from the water!
On a side note..wonder what ever happened to our troll friend! Perhaps he left for greener pastures?? Or changed his name again? Lol

Sounds like a middle manager making turmoil about a pet peeve catering problem. Take the water you need within reason to be well nourished on the overnight. At UAL, I’ve heard zero concern or even conversation on this. Makes me think it’s internal or below that level. We’ve all got bigger problems if the margins are so close that crew taking a bottle of water is breaking the bank. I’ve not seen email in question, but first thought this was a joke.

If you could see how entitled you seem to us out here in the rest of the world you would get off of this horse. You are making over 100k a year in a job that 6 years ago paid 25k, but gave you all the bottled water you wanted. Now, your airline is facing a water shortage due to your major’s catering being insufficient. Company asks you not to take water off of plane because there is not enough for the passengers. Can you imagine being a thirsty passenger and being told there is no water? Same passenger who saw you getting off of the aircraft with bottled water?
