I'd say dump it. I work for Mesa, and I'm not too thrilled with the way the company is going to go. Heck as it is, I just got a furlough letter today saying they anticipate furloughing me in January. I imagine we will furlough deep this time, since I'm almost positive we'll lose the UAL 50 seat flying, and we bungled up the Delta stuff AGAIN by not having enough cash in the bank. It's only a matter of time now. We're bleeding badly, and we keep getting cuts to the throat. I think UAL and or DAL will be the final slice that brings us down. God this is a miserable post. When did I start sounding so depressed? Oh yeah, the day I took my job! :p Junk, I'm talking about the stock not the company and it's employees, except for JO:) |
Mesa stock is junk, no doubt about it. Highly speculative.
Company issues aside though, I can't help but notice that $10,000 bucks invested in Mesa stock in March would be worth around $80,000 today. Not a bad gain for 5 months. If Mesa can somehow convincingly and dramatically stave off bankruptcy, it's liable to shoot into the several dollar ranges. I'm not a fan of Mesa at all, but I'm throwing some "mad money" that I can afford to lose forever at it. Wish I would have went with my gut at the beginning of the year and bought it then. |
I have been buying and selling MESA stock since $0.05. It did well for me. I now think it is a little more risky at $0.30. I considered shorting it last week when I saw it rose very quickly up to $0.36.
I am now thinking of purchasing XJT around $2.55... what do you all think? I do think airlines recover over time like most other industries in a world of hurt now. Airlines stocks are risky for gain or loss though. |
I'm thinking that RJET might be the better choice. It's had quite a run-up over the past 6 months, but their management team is ruthless, competent, ambitious, and have cash in the bank.
I wouldn't expect an 800% return in 6 months a-la MESA, but I wouldn't have to worry about losing all of my investment with an overnight bankruptcy filing either. Like you said . . . buying airline stocks isn't for the timid. I suppose I am, but I've been sitting on the sidelines watching airline stocks for years and I think there's some real money to be made. Just don't bet the farm. |
Earlier this year when SkyWest stock was down below $10, I changed my 401k contributions and now it's at $18.

It's the people like me who are struggling and bleeding. |

He's not struggling and bleeding. He's set. Trust me.
It's the people like me who are struggling and bleeding. The only people that are going to bleed are the employees and families of Mesa *if* something bad happens :( |
