Job Offer from Mesa

Got an offer from Mesa to start class in two weeks. I also have an interview with Republic next week. I have until tomorrow to call Mesa back and accept.

The guy that I talked to was very cool and very informative. Really didn't try and hide anything. It seems they got my resume from pilot pool. I signed up for that no more than a week ago and got called today.

Wait.....you didn't interview?

amcnd 07-21-2013 05:47 PM

Yeah, I did a phone interview. After it was completed I was offered a class date.

WeaselBoy 07-21-2013 06:04 PM

Accept the Mesa job. Then interview at RAH. Leave your options open until the day you step foot on property somewhere.

Edited:
What? You didn't interview in person?

rickair7777 07-21-2013 06:04 PM

Take mesa I suppose. You don't incur the training contract until you complete training, so you can (and should) bail from training if you get a better offer.

Mesa interviews by telephone, and eventually they'll do them via video conferencing...

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly. They hire right after the phone interview? They don't use the phone interview as an intermediate step in the hiring process?

So, the first time someone from the company actually sets eyes on you is when you show up as a new hire?

Wow!!!! Sign of things to come I guess. Have an atp? Speak English and seem to know what youre talking about? Hired! Thats wild man. Congrates on the offer and all, just never heard of anything like this. Im sure it will be standard practice at regionals though in the next few years.

How long before the majors are doing mail interviews?

OnMyWay 07-21-2013 07:24 PM

Big Sky did phone only interviews for a while.

block30 07-21-2013 07:36 PM

Just curious, is Pilot Pool just for ATP (flight school) grads? Thanks.

check your mailbox next week. I'm sure Delta would love to take you... but only if you're willing to fly an A320 on regional pay.

So what you're saying is, I have a chance there? :D

Drums4life 07-21-2013 09:19 PM

Back in 2007 when they were really short staffed I was hired without any interview at all. Just turned in a resume at a job fair and got offered a class 3 days days later. Crazy times.

It used to be, but think it's now open to anyone.

In 2008, Mesa and Pinnacle were hiring guys without a commercial license, and with less than 200 hours. You could walk up at a job fair and get hired in 5 minutes.

SkyWest Airlines to Interview Pilot Candidates at Oshkosh
SkyWest
July 18, 2013 - Say you're an airline with openings for quality pilot candidates. Where would you look? SkyWest Airlines decided this year to do so at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, and is working with Redbird Flight Simulations at the Redbird exhibit, inviting airline career hopefuls to apply, interview, and prove their pilot skills during the week.

Pilots who meet SkyWest's published minimums (1,500 hours' total time and other criteria) are invited to complete a SkyWest Airlines pilot interview and flight skills test right on the AirVenture grounds.

The process starts at the SkyWest canopy located directly behind the Redbirds exhibit, No. 208. Candidates need to show proof of experience and undergo the verbal portion of the interview.

Next step is a full simulator portion on a full-motion Redbird King Air 350i sim, where applicants will be required to demonstrate airmanship, proficiency, IFR skills, and abilities. While no King Air time is required or expected, proficient IFR skills are mandatory.

SkyWest stresses that these will be real interviews, and the airline may extend conditional job offers to those who successfully complete the process. Applicants from all facets of aviation are encouraged to apply in person at Redbird's AirVenture display. Just look for the SkyWest banner. Casual air show attire is appropriate.

SkyWest Airlines, headquartered in St. George, Utah, currently operates 330 aircraft flying to 175 destinations. In 2012, SkyWest carried 26.2 million passengers.
