Mesa schedules and trip mix

Just read Skillets incredible statement on another thread that Mesa does 6 day trips with only 2 days off afterwards. Is this the case for line-holders or just reserves? Is there any trip mix, day trips, two days etc? Is everything at min days off after 117? 6 days away from the family seems insane for a regional.

but, but, but Mesa has 18 month upgrades and brand new 175s. It should make working 6 days on worth it

Max trip length is 4 days, Reserve duty is up to 6 days. The duty length depends on how you bid for days off. Longer duty lengths means more days off in a row. Reservists usually get 11 days off/ month, but lion holders may get up to 16 days off depending on base and seniority.

Let me explain, A 4 day trip backed up by a 2 day. If you commute, you are away from home 6 days. In January I had three 6 days on in a row with 11 days off and a 77 hour line. I did have one 4 day off stretch but I also had just 2 days off in a row twice. Just saying that the lines suck right now with no end in sight.

Here we have someone saying that 6 days away from family for a regional is insane, yet Silver's NC thinks that 18 (extendable to 20) consecutive reserve days is perfectly wonderful and is the best thing since sliced bread!

No one in CLT is getting more than 12 days off. And about 90 percent are just getting 11 days off. I am less than 10 in base and have had 11 days off in Jan. and Feb. I bid max daily credit for more days off but PBS just cannot build a decent line.

Are you guys able to use FLICA at all to improve your lines? That sounds pretty horrible I hope they are working to address that in the new TA. What's the point of seniority if everyone is getting the min days off?

You've gotta have good pairing or trip trading via flica wont do sh*t for you. Ask me how I know (BTW I don't work for Mesa)

It's useless, the only thing out there are 8 hour three days with 30 hours in Rochester, NY.

Was it that bad before 117?

Trip trading? Part 117 didn't change that. Regionals don't staff enough to allow much trip trading.

As for the crappy trips, part 117 completely changed our pairings at Republic. I'm on average down 2 to 4 days off from before. The trips are not worth much credit, so I have to work more days. Commutability has gone down the tubes. And I'm top 10% in base.

No, but there were a lot a fatiguing schedules. 430AM show times, 6 leggers, unlocking your hotel room door at 600PM that night only to have to show again before 500AM. It's just damned if you do with 117 and damned if you don't. I haven't been fatigued but tired of being in a hotel that's for sure.

I don't get it, how are some regionals (PSA, Whiskey, Compass) still building at least a decent schedule?

121again 02-18-2014 05:11 PM

All those regionals get the same pairings handed to them from mainline so there most be a weak link somewhere. Maybe it's the PBS software you're using?

After a little digging I found both Compass and SkyWest use the same PBS vendor. But I think at the end of the day what matters is how much control you have over the parameters.

We are fat on pilots with the anticipation of the new aircraft coming on board, so they are spreading the hours out. We have had the MEC talk to management, I don't know if true or not but they were told we know we can make the schedules more efficient but at this time we are not. Mesa has total control over PBS, it's not the computer building these lines, the trips are put into the computer before the bids are ran. With most 4 day trips starting heavy and ending heavy. If they would just throw a turn in on day 2 or 3 instead of two legs sitting on my ass in a hotel that would solve the problem. That way the four day trips could be pushed up over 20 hours and then you could build a decent schedule.

Skillett,

Seems like this is only a CLT thing.

24 of the 29 FO line holders in IAD all have 13+ days off for this month.

The top 15 guys have 15-18 days off.

Our IAD schedules are still not too shabby. Mostly turns out of IAD, DFW, AUS, SAT, MIA, JAX, CLT, ROC, LGA, MCI etc.

VanDriver208 02-19-2014 08:35 AM

I am thinking of bidding over to IAD for just that reason...there isn't a line in sight for me over in ORD.

How senior is ORD?

Yeah we got a lot of short hops in CLT.

A May '13 hire can't hold a line

This is all subject to change in the next couple months as CRJ and EJET upgrades windup.

Has scheduling over at Mesa gotten any better? Any word on how they plan on recruiting once classes stop filling up after new republic TA passes(My own prediction)?

sevenforseven 02-27-2014 08:53 AM

Hey question for you Mesa guys --- do they at least put you up in decent hotels? Eagle was awful.

In my experience, I haven't had a hotel room that I would consider awful, although I've heard stories. Currently some are mediocre but we also have a couple that are very nice. I've never experienced bed bugs or dirty rooms, thankfully.

They're all pretty ok. Unless you're headed for Louisville and afraid of ghosts..

I start in 2 weeks anything I should be aware of? Hows moral with the pilot group and any news on the next contract?

prior121 02-27-2014 10:37 AM

There's an ALPA pilot wide call tomorrow. We haven't had one in a couple months so hopefully it should be full of news us worker ants aren't privy too out on the East Coast. :D

As far as moral this place is all what you make it. Morale is leaps and bounds better than what it was like working for Reverend Bedford at Republic. However, we aren't all smiles like those Skywest guys.

Hotels seem like they've improved a bit in the last few months. For a bit I was staying in some horrid stuff, Best Western's that shouldn't even be more than Hotel 8's,etc. Lately I've been staying in Radisson's, Marriott's, nicer Holiday Inns.

Speaking of worker ant, I haven't flown in a week and a half again.

Living in base, life is good.

NovemberBravo 02-27-2014 10:44 AM

Nice I've been hoping you guys get competitive with the next contract so we can be just as happy as skywest guys while still attracting new guys that wont be looking at a fast upgrade. I'm hoping for ORD out of the schoolhouse, fingers crossed.

The most Junior FO in ORD is a November 2013 hire. Which means he wasn't even online for a month before he was award ORD.

Hopefully Republic's TA will help dry up the pool of people coming here, which in turn will put pressure on MAG management for a new TA.
