Mesa or PSA?
Hello forum. I am re-entering aviation after 19 years. I have an aviation degree and qualify for the R-ATP. I am in my mid 40s, married and have kids. I am settled in DFW and will not relocate. I have an enforcement action on my record from 1994 (when I stopped flying).
I don't have any grandeur ideas of flying at the Majors with my age and past history. I just want to fly. I am looking at Mesa and PSA. I would prefer to get into Mesa with the new DFW domicile but PSA is very attractive being that I will most likely never leave the regional scene. I have not applied to either place because I am not yet current. I am hesitant to apply due to the past non-flying violation that occurred 20 years ago. I do not want to make the cash investment to get current unless there is a good chance to get hired with either airline. Is there someone in recruitment that I could counsel with before making this cash and time investment? Should I just apply and hopefully interview before I get current? How and when should I disclose my past? Thanks in advance for the replies. |

If the legacy carriers don't call then there's always JetBlue, Allegiant, Spirit, etc... Contrary to what some of the others on this forum may say, you will be way better off at ANY of these places over even the best regional. Good luck! |
You'd get hired at Mesa without question, I know people with fresh violations getting hired without an interview right now. Don't know much about PSA, I know GoJet is willing to hire pretty much anyone.

Me personally, shoot for the one where you can live in base or have the shortest easiest commute.Other than that all regionals are pretty much the same, slight differences in contracts and a buck or so an hour difference on first or second year pay.Other than that they are all the same to me.Shoot for the best quality of life and you'll be alot happier.Commuting will suck the life out of you in a very short period of time |
If you have your first class medical and ATP written done, apply for both. If they both call, THEN you will have a decision to make.
If you do not have the ATP written done, I'm not sure you have any options until the airlines get their CTP programs running. (Maybe I'm way off the mark here...) |
If you go to PSA and are based in CLT you will have a nightmare of a commute because you will be competing with tons of Mesa pilots who currently live in CLT that will be commuting to DFW. That route will be saturated. Choose the airline where you don't commute. Commuting sucks big time.

He'd bump every Mesa pilot due to mesa's SA99D priority

I have 1st class medical but haven't taken ATP written. I could easily pass the written today. I am leaning towards Mesa due to the possibility of a DFW domicile, however, I would love to speak to a Mesa recruiter. Thanks for the Pm's and information. If there is anyone with additional contact info on a Mesa recruiter would you please PM the info? Thanks!

I would like some info on a recruiter too, just 300 hours away from R-ATP mins and live in DFW already. Let me know if you find anything out 2ndtimearoud. BTW you really should of taken that ATP written before that deadline since it was only a month ago like everyone else did. I don't know how much of an impact this is going to make on the regional's selections though. |

Mesa does not have a CTP program in place, so I would expect the recruiter to tell you to go get your CTP and written done and then call them back. |

I’ve been evaluating these two also.
Mesa year one min guarantee is $22*76=$1,672/19=$88 per working day. PSA is $24*75=$1,800/18=$100 per working day. Also apparently PSA has option to drop a 4 day trip $24*65=$1,560/14=$111 per working day. On step 2 Mesa would be $116 per working day PSA would be either $141, or $157 depending on if you drop a 4 day. If you drop a 4 day trip with PSA you still make $6 bucks more than Mesa every month, and work 5 days less. Just for some fudge factor I’ve read people claiming Mesa lines are always min days off and min credit every month, where as PSA the lines generally look better the above, was assuming they have min 12 days off, but that is a guess. So, if PSA started you off with a 14 day off line then you dropped a 4 day you could have 18 days off making $184 dollars per working day on step 2, or $6 bucks month more than Mesa with an extra 7 days off per month. For the commute you would have to look at passridder.com, I’ve read if there is a 10 Pm flight home you should always make it home same day as released. The upgrade time should be equal, and with PSA there should be opportunity to make more in overtime, like if you have to commute the day before and you also get an early report than that’s 125% above the monthly stipend. I have no idea if that would actually ever work out like that though. I am interested in what you learn with the recruiters, please keep us informed. |
Why would you even need to talk to anyone at Mesa they hire people through email.
I would say your hired. |
