How about MAG ALPA do something like this:

Spirit Pilot Contract Now ? Discount Fares, Not Discount Pilots

How many weeks since our contract has become amendable?

What am I paying union dues and an ALPA assessment for? We have some of the worst pay and work rules in the industry.

At what point do you pound on the table so to speak? After 10 years? 12 years? If we get a decent contract it won't be solely because of the union. It will be the lack of pilots and JO finally giving in to the fact that he needs a fair wage to attract pilots. Why would he negotiate if he's filling classes. He's said it himself.
Unless you've been under a rock your entire 121 career, we are absolutely bound by the strictures of the RLA (Railway Labor Act). The RLA is a management wet dream, they literally hold ALL THE CARDS and we get what we're given if they feel like it. The Union does a great deal of work outside bargaining and it's ever-so-annoying to see people dump on "the union" until they're called out to PHX.

I don't know how long you've been here, I know nothing about you. But if you buy into the OMG it's been 6/8/10 years and nothing's getting done BS then you're always going to be disappointed. We did get a POS TA in 2015, and the pilots rightly turned it down. At an LEC briefing the negotiator told us that the company agreed to keep much of what was "good" and the NC expanded on much of that. I guess that's progress.

The MEC has done the things allowable under the law (picketing, education, communication) and still people don't show up. Don't read the emails. But by golly they can tell you with no uncertainty why everything the union does is AFU.

When we held our picketing event (pushed for loudly by aforementioned DFW CA Rep), guess who WASN'T at the IAH picketing and barely made the DFW event because someone did a jet bridge trade day of? One guess.

So yeah, the process is slow. I'm given to understand that we're going to mediation with a lot of "open" items, something mediators don't like according to my IBT lawyer friend. I heard the last NC chair wanted them closed and only pay and benefits "open" and it got him fired, led by, well you guess.

You pound the table when you know you can win. Anything else is a distraction.

It's been just over 6. And whether we like it or not there was a ta agreed to. So it's not been 6 with nothing to show. And the first 2 were really pointless because mesa was suppose to shut down shortly thereafter when out contracts were up. That's straight from the bankruptcy exit plan.

But yes, it's still way to long. But no matter who's in charge of what, no one can make Mesa do anything that Mesa refuses to do. Rla sucks, but we are stuck with it.

I've never seen any other pilot group / union use the RLA as an excuse more often to "not rock the boat" than MAG ALPA. It was one thing being inside and looking out, now having a new perspective from the outside looking in, how others do things, theres no other way to describe it, other than being "truly pathetic".
Stockholm Syndrome is not a joke, it's a real thing, and it seems the union has it bad.
The union should be thanking E.L. for that letter, for the first time in a long time, MAG ALPA got some street credit from their peers. And what happens? You all ****ed it away by distancing yourself from it.
The pilot group gets what they deserve, they are just as bad in terms of playing the game. Look how Envoy pilots got motivated and cleaned house in their union a while back. That would never happen at MAG.
Of course who the hell am I to speak about such things? I took the path of least resistance and left.

Good for you. If we think anything positive will happen with our contract, we are delusional. Not putting the blame on anyone, but those are the facts at Mesa. Been here a long time and this place is an endless loop. It's hard to give up all that seniority but I'm outta here and not for the legacies either. We all deserve MUCH better.

Are you seriously comparing AA to Mesa?
