Default Age Waiver

Hello guys,

My dream has always been to be a fighter pilot, I regret not going to college before joining the AF back in 2003 but I didn't have the means to pay for college and my recruiter never even told me about ROTC or anything like that. Either way I enlisted and became a Loadmaster in C-17's had a great time for 4 years travelling all over the world. In 2008 I palace chase to a ANG unit and worked a boring admin job for 2 years before I was allowed to get out. At that time i used my GI-bill to get all my ratings and and a college degree. Now I am flying an EMB 145 i have about 800 tt and I like my job, specially the motivation of what is next when I get enough hours and experience.

However I still dream about what would've been to fly fighters.
I just turned 31 last month and I was wondering if there is the slightest chance I could get an age waiver at any ANG or reserve unit to go to UPT. I am a good pilot and I know i can make it!

It would take an age waiver. If you can find a unit that wants you bad enough, they can probably make it happen. Good luck.

Guard or Reserve units are generally the only ones who can get a waiver.

Highest I saw was 35; 32/33 is more common.

Start calling units. Think I'd start with your old unit, if you are on good terms.

Age waivers are out there, but they can be difficult to come by. Having military background and some flying experience will definitely help you get a UPT slot. I seriously doubt you'll get a fighter wing though as they really stick to their guns of 28 or below for UPT. Heavies are a real possibility though.
