Well, the time for the 30-day review is up. I am sure we will be enlightened tomorrow, May 22.

Well, the 30-day report by some admiral on the OBOGS system in the T-45 and the Hornet is several days past due and I, for one, can't find anything on it. If anybody knows please post a link.

The report in question was directed by VCNO to COMPACFLT. It was briefed to VCNO last week and "some admiral" is making the rounds to all T-45 and F-18 locations to brief the results directly to aircrew.

I don't expect there to be a document available for a public link.

So the Admiral is going to all the T-45 bases, all the F/A-18 air stations, and all the deployed carriers with F/A-18s on board to brief the aircrews? Somebody should buy him a smartphone instead.

Leadership via smartphone ?

Must be the new Navy.

Ah, 'community outreach' Barack Obama style. Briefing about the problem is ever so much better than fixing the problem permanently.

which obviously can be done via smartphone, instead of talking to troops face to face.

No, it would be information dissemination via email/briefing, which happens all the time in every civilian and military organization, even ones with great leaders. Briefings can be delegated to lower local leadership levels and it is still can be effective leadership and successfully disseminated. If you need one specific leader to go and educate folks on an issue face to face, in many different locales, there is either a breakdown in leadership down the ranks, a breakdown in information dissemination down the ranks, or something else that would prompt it. No idea as an outsider what that would be, but I would not say, in any organization, it is normal for only one person to conduct a face to face briefing as a method of distributing the results of a safety related investigation.

From a Cobham (one manufacturer of the OBOGS systems) brochure: "Cobham has established the installation of its flight-proven On-Board Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS) on the Lockheed-Martin F-16 Falcon aircraft to replace the liquid oxygen system (LOX). Minimal modification is required to retrofit the aircraft with OBOGS."

It would seem that if minimal work is required to replace the LOX system, minimal work would be required to reinstall the LOX system (or install it on the T-45). What am I missing?

Is the admiral still doing his traveling lecturing gig?
