VLPAD and retirement
Could anyone shed light if one returns under the current recall (VLPAD), could they retire short of the three year order, say after 2.5 years once 20 AD years are obtained. I could not get a good answer looking thru both the recall and retirement regs. Is there some one out there who experienced this situation during the last recall? Thanks for you time.

Take it for what it's worth.... one guy. Past decisions might not equal future decisions. Also, if you stay what your currently qualified in, they wouldn't have it over your head Can you just ask for orders written to your 20 year day? cant hurt to ask. |
Woodro did you ever get a good answer? I'm in your situation and possibly interested for something overseas but only wanting to do my last 2.5. I'll get my last 2.5 where I'm at but be a good experience to take the family overseas. See how desperate the AD really is.

I have not had any clarification on the issue. I'm still going to give it a shot and try to apply for an early retirement. It's only six months if they say no it not the end of the world, but an AD retirement. :D |
Limited EAD tour lengths will be 3 years and one day. NOTE: When necessary, officers are authorized initial tour lengths of less than 3 years to avoid entering active duty retirement sanctuary. In accordance with Title 10, USC 12686(b), officers may then waive sanctuary rights for subsequent active duty tours not exceeding 179 days each to allow officers to serve the minimum 3 years and one day requirement
Saw this on mypers. I know this was written for something different but may still be a way to not do the full 3 years. After the holiday break I was going to email the guy that is running the program and see what he says about it. My only concern is that I have roughly 34 months of USERRA left, and not sure if AD is considered USERRA exempt. If you need the name of the POC I can PM you the name I was given. |
Just talked with AFPC and you have to do 3 years and 1 day for VLPAD. It is what they need to count against AD end strength, which is the reason for the program. FYI.

Thanks for looking into it and I have the POC for the VLPAD program. Waiting for orders to be cut.

Do you have a good POC for VPLAD, I am putting together my package and have a few questions. I spent 1.5 hours on hold when I called the help desk and could not get an answer.
Thanks |
Woodro, apologies if you've looked here, but have you read through the ADSC reg: AFI 36-2107?
Also, if you'd like, I can copy/paste and send a message to AFPC via vMPF |
