"Volterm"

So heard a new thing today, didn't know a Naval Aviator still had the option to "Volterm." Had a guy from our squadron volterm and is trying to go to the regionals, just out of curiosity does he get to keep his hours/wings and wouldn't they be questioning his volterm?

He should lose his wings.

He keeps flight hours.

What I don't know is whether he is still eligible for a CPL based on mil flight training. If he already got the CPL, he can keep it for sure. This is why you should get the CPL immediately after wings.

I don't know if he still has R-ATP eligibility.

You'd have to read the FARs re. the last two. If they don't specifically remove R-ATP eligibility due to removal from mil flight status, then he should be good to go on that.

What were his reasons for voluntary termination? We usually see that from guys that are about to get FNAEB'd for performance and would rather VOLTERM and preserve a FITREP. Technically its the CO removing the aviator from flight status due to a voluntary request so he will have to explain his removal from flight status at every interview for the rest of his life.

The gold wings are his for completing training (and accepting the service obligation). VOLTERM does nothing about the service obligation...he still has to serve whatever years he has left as a 130X designator.

He keeps his wings, looses flight status and has to go to a PCOR board for retention/redesignation. If he is not redesignated then he gets out with his AD commitment truncated to time served (still has the remainder of His IRR commitment if hes been in less than 8 years) and he qualifies for R-ATP mins.

Regionals will ask, but as long as he has R-ATP mins they won’t care.

Not really sure, think there was some personal problems going on but I didn't want to ask..quite a shock to a lot of us

Interesting enough though he says he just shy of 705 but was told with the conversion he met R-ATP..first I've ever heard of this situation so thought I'd share and get insight

I have one buddy who went through the process and is now at Skywest and have recommended the process for a few others who fleet aviator life hasn’t worked out for for various reasons.

He should [not] lose his wings.
