I will work in some functional training.
funny enough I was 160 lbs about a year ago and in fantastic shape. I got a concussion sparring though so I had to take a rest. Sedentary life kicked in and I'm 205 right now. All of my friends got fat and happy so I said what the hell and joined in with them. Working my way back down though. Was 215 like 2 weeks ago.

No sir, 27 going on 28. However, I am in decent shape and am going to the gym everyday. Boxing 2 days a week, lifting/cardio at the gym 3-4 days a week.

If you're ramping up the running, there's a way to do that to avoid injuries (involves taking breaks, you can google it).

Just got out actually about 2 and a half hours ago funny enough.
I failed the book test, failed the lantern test, but passed the pages that have green or red blocks on them so I was able to still go infantry.
I swore in and ship out in 2 and a half months. It's exciting, and a bit scary. But mostly exciting!

2-108th infantry in NY.
I have been hitting the gym like no one's business. I watched full metal jacket recently and am hoping that I am not on the receiving end of a "pillow party" lol.
Oh and I also learned I'm a low life loser for wanting to join courtesy of that one teacher in California.

Really? I'm kind of surprised. All of the people I've talked to including recruiters try to get you to join by talking through those incentives with people.
Just a small update on the whole thing. Had my first training this weekend. Was great. Definitely was one of the older guys there but I at least had some 25 year olds to talk with who just got out of basic. Very informative and I learned all the basic commands/movements. The biggest thing I got out of the whole thing though was I need inserts for my shoes. I have flat feet and standing all day was absolute hell. Going to fleet feet later to grab some new shoes/inserts.

Indeed, but it could be something that they get bonuses for not using perhaps? I'm not certain though. There is a new recruiter so I'll give him a ring this week and see.
Good insoles make all the difference and they're a good investment. I never got the expensive ones, just the Dr Scholl's work ones that Walmart sells. They work fine for me and they're $15 at most.

Shipping in a week. Thanks again for the advice guys! I am 30 lbs down now, 185 @ 5'9'' but a good build, I imagine i'll lose much more weight there. I can already do the PT test requirments for graduation so hopefully the fitness aspect won't be too horrible. Have had 2 RSP drills so far so I learned the very basics of what to expect.
Time to enjoy a very hot spring/summer at ft benning!
