Leave early for airlines under internship
Has anyone heard of anyone using the internship to leave service 6 months early and start with an airline?
The program website is www.dodskillbridge.com
Just curious how airlines would treat it since you're only allowed to collect your military check while doing the program. I am currently a year and a half from being able to take terminal leave, but thought getting an extra couple months to get thru training, etc would be nice.

Don’t know the specifics of the program, but wouldn’t you have to be an actual intern as opposed to employee. If you’re only allowed to get paid by the military, that’s going to be a problem, as you are paid for training at the airline...

Yes. It will not happen under an union CBA. Airlines are not allowed to use non-seniority list members as pilots, with a very few exceptions for management pilots. But in the later case, I can only think of one company (UPS) which hires management pilots off the street, and you would not be eligible for union seniority, ie you'd always be management. So kind of like the military, come to work M-F regardless, and fly whenever they need you to (nights, weekends, holidays, etc).
The concept of the DoD bridge program is not compatible with something like airline line flying.

Specifically for regionals
Thank you for the feedback, and I had figured under union cba's it might not fit. My question would be how it might fit in the training environment. I thought i read some airlines pay training as a contractor until training is complete.
Realize it's a long shot, but being able to start training a couple months early seemed worth looking into at least.

A duty station (if big enough) will have its own reps for the programs. It's currently in it's infancy.
I've heard that at some places the RTPs have been covered based on the interpretation of the guys there. At other places, not so much. Here's the reg. Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1322.29, Job Training.
It's a lot of leg work but definitely worth pursuing.

Yeah this is a real thing not sure you can do 6 months with an airline but im sure you could do some training towards it. It requires your Battalion Commanders approval and you have to be within 180 of terminal leave. You can to the police academy, I know thats a popular one, boarder patrol as well things like that. Since im hoping to be done with my flying by then for the RTP I wanted to spend three weeks and get my A&P for when I own my own plane. Should have done it back in my crew chief days prior to going flight.
