I seriously hope you are not referring to cigarettes. It is the year 2007. If anyone starts smoking cigarettes, you are a complete idiot.
If you are talking about a drug, doesn't that disqualify you from being a pilot in the Air Force! I really hope you were kidding about the smoking comment. You could ruin this poor kids life!!!  :( |
iahflyr,
im pretty sure 1seat 1engine was joking. :) i actually laughed out loud when i read the line about smoking. if he wasnt joking then hes funny and doesnt know it. and to everybody, thanks so much for posting your comments. i really really appreciate hearing advice from people that have gone through the real deal. it really increases my motivation to become a pilot, and i am certain that i will be hitting the gym this summer! |

hello all,
i am currently a freshmen in college and enroled in air force rotc. i am hoping to get a pilot slot and eventually become an air force aviator! But, i am a pretty lanky guy... 6'4'' 170 pounds on a heavy day; im sort of the runner type. (i get just under 100 on pft so thats not what im worried about), but ive seen videos on youtube and what not showing people passing out from like 7 g's in a centrifuge even when theyre short and stocky and that gets me a bit worried. so, for my future aircraft options, i am basically ruling out any sort of fighter because i just dont think id be able to take 9 g's. and i was wondering about anybodies opinion regarding me being skinny and my aircraft options: a10, bombers, helos, heavies? bombers appeal to me most, but i dont know if id have to endure the same amount of g's for a bomber as a fighter because fighter and bomber are in the same track. any info/ advice/ or opinions would be greatly appreciated. thanks Seriously, Get to UPT, have a blast! Don't worry about the 'g's, they teach you how to manage that stuff. Best of luck! |

Wait!! I have a better idea than above. Start smoking, eat cheeseburgers then 20 years from now you can sue 1Seat for giving you the advice!!!:D :D

you'll probably do fine. just finished up flying the F-14 a few months ago. i'm 6-4, 175, also a runner-type. i've seen fireplug guys gray out, lanky guys too, everybody has good and bad days. eat right, sleep right, do your 'hook' right and you'll be ahead of the game.
as far as size goes, the tomcat had plenty of room. of course that doesn't matter to anyone except the iranians now. i've seen some pretty big guys in just about everything out there though.. good luck |
Hey all, although my username is different now this is the Original Poster...6 years later. Believe it or not your inputs did actually have an impact; I now use the phrase "make them say no" when I talk to other rising upt students wondering about going for fighters. I graduated upt last may and I'm about to finish IFF, going to the Strike Eagle, starting B course in january. Cheers

Flying Waffles, congrats. Where did you do UPT at? Strike Eagle is a great platform, but you won't have to worry about pulling too many G's in it!
|
Flying Waffles, awesome news - congratulations. In ten years, take the bonus and stay in. You'll make more money and do cooler stuff then you could ever imagine flying pax point to point.
