Keep in mind the (poor) hiring locations, non commutable job, directed overtime, high polygraph failure rate, etc https://go.usa.gov/xRGxj

I know people, almost all are looking to major airlines or just retire (bought their AD mil time plus mil reserve pension). One or two guys love it (San Diego, likes to live on the back side of the clock).

As mentioned, apparently the polygraph is a real goat-rope, so nobody should get their hopes up until that part's in the rear-view mirror. Massive failure rate, including mil types with clearances and operational backgrounds in TS+ programs.

One of my friends that I had pointed to in the past as a success story has just announced that he is interviewing with SWA. If this guy is leaving then I'd call that the final nail in the coffin. My current co-worker who came over from CBP said that this guy was as gung-ho and hard working as they come and he knew he was getting fed-up with basically feeling like he was alone in pulling the load for the rest of the office.

So freaking sad to hear, but maybe it was fate in the end that I didn't go that route like I wanted too.

Default Veteran age waiver

Does anyone what the age limit is for veterans? I’m going through the hiring process and I just turned 48 and have been contacted about doing the polygraph test. Is someone going to tell down the line that I am too old to be hired? I currently work for Air Methods but put in an application for an AIA pilot as an option because I’m patriotic, but I don’t want to get my hopes up if nobody caught the fact that I am too old to be hired.

At this point, you should be OK. I won't get into the opinions on a 68 year old gun toter, but older people than you are being hired as 6c.

Default AS350’s or other helos on the northern

I was hoping to get a job on the northern boarder. Are there helos on the northern boarder? They have posted for jobs for grand forks but what are hose jobs? I’m a AS 350 pilot for Air Methods so would I still have to go through training? The Helicopter EMS industry is becoming pretty volatile so I was hoping for some job security with CPB. is that not the case? Are helo guy only going to the southern boarders?

Grand Forks is the only northern border station you can be hired at, all the other hiring locations are on the southern border. Grand Forks has ASTARs (I'm not sure in they are B2's or echoes). Grand Forks operates the MQ-9 there also.

Sorry, but you will not be able to go straight to the north. South Texas and Puerto Rico only for new hires. Grand Forks is UAV only.

And with all due respect, a little spell check goes a long way. Good luck.

All,

Sorry for the not so great news but all new hires as of late will go to Puerto Rico, Mcallen, Laredo, San Angelo, Sierra Vista, Yuma or Grand Forks. These are all of the "Garden Spots" in the country that are hard to fill. The northern border WILL NOT happen for you except for Grand forks. Priority being the MQ9 and MAYBE the AS350 after a year or so. Age is not a factor for VA types. The job is still light years ahead of any life flight pay or schedule.
Good luck.
