WHAT?! I just threw up in my mouth. God no! Since DL stopped hiring the only airline that cares is FedEx. They’re one in same when it comes to hiring.
It’s water under the bridge. Just bring your flt records, look sharp and answer the questions. When asked if you knocked up the admiral’s daughter, you say...no!
My airline didn’t ask for OPRS (fitreps).

There are plenty of places that will accept “misconduct” on the record from a military applicant, however not all are places someone may want spend a lifetime after leaving active duty.
Ideally it won’t be an issue applying to the majors, but if it ends up being a contributing factor why someone doesn’t get picked up directly off active duty to a major, they’re going to want to have a backup plan that puts them on a path to get to the majors eventually.
AA Wholly Owneds do that, and accept folks who are discharged with better than an OTH.
The OP probably has a good reason to consult an airline interview prep company to give them the full details and get a read on the situation to help develope a plan that will put them where they want to be in the long run...

I was under the impression from an employee law standpoint that a company can ask for a copy of your DD214, but that asking for information beyond that (i.e, fitreps) is not allowed. See link below.
Your DD214 and Veterans' Employment Opportunities
Whether it’s protected (not legal to ask) or just frowned upon I’m not sure, but it sounds like a gray area at best. (If anyone else knows please clarify) Either way even if they shouldn’t ask for it and they do, it sounds like the only way to have a positive outcome is to discuss what happened truthfully.

How closely do the airlines scruntize your military record?
Let's say a naval aviator did something stupid (outside of the cockpit) and was sent to Mast and given a letter of reprimand, ensuring he'll never make O-4, effectively ending his naval career. Would the airlines care about this at all? To reiterate this is completely non-flying related.

That doesn't mean they can't ask for other docs to learn more about the qualifications an applicant has (ie military flight records). FITREPs can show experience and job history, but obviously also can characterize your military performance. I'm not aware of any federal rule that says they can't ask for them.
