Anyone flown for the AMO(border patrol)

Has anyone flown for the border patrol fixed wing side? How and what does life look like as a career? Obviously nowhere near the amount of money as airlines, but is it worth it? And is it possible to use this as time building instead of a career to invest in TSP? I’m prior Marine enlisted so I kind of like the fast paced part of the way they make this seem

I'm also interested in hearing about this. What is the hiring process like and what do they look for?

Pay looks pretty good as well. $113,000 a year after just three years with benefits. Wow

Do you want to live in border towns for your first 4-6 years?

It's "Customs and Border Protection", not border patrol.

I'm an escort, NOT a hooker. Thank-you very much.

True statement. Just finished the entire process and was offered everything but Puerto Rico, the only place I was interested in. I have 1800 hrs TT, 400 of which are in airplanes but only 45 in twins. I thought I was a shoe in because I met the basic qualifications + I’m a veteran, dual rated, and have a 4yr degree from ERAU. When I said I would only take Puerto Rico, I was told they had openings but not for me because “I didn’t have the skill set”. Pretty deceptive if you ask me. I spent 3 to 4 months in their pipeline, $1500 traveling to their appointments + my personal leave time thinking I qualified based on their job posting. Tread with caution. Expensive and potentially very disappointing depending on what you want. At any rate, the airlines are hiring so moving on.

Straight from their job information page

All new hire pilots will go to one of the following locations:
Sierra Vista, AZ
Grand Forks, ND
Laredo, TX
McAllen, TX
San Angelo, TX
Yuma, AZ
Deming, AZ
Alpine, TX
Aguadilla, PR

Is there a particular reason why new hires go to one of those?
They list a lot more locations but I’m guessing they are “spoken for” probably meaning the more ideal locations will never have an opening.

So if one has a few years as a civilian federal employee in another agency would that time count to the seniority system? is there other criteria like qualifications, hardships to get a transfer?

As a new applicant with fixed wing flight time, could you get assigned to RPAs? Or will you at least get some sort of airplane, even if it’s a Cessna or something?

kaputt 06-17-2018 09:40 AM

So are there fixed wing aircraft at every available base?

I haven't been able to find what aircraft are at what locations.
