Military type rating applicablilty to ATP rat

I have a C-130/L-382 type rating and am going to get my ATP-CTP and then take my ATP writtens. Assuming I pass the written exam, am I eligible to apply for an unrestricted ATP because I have a type rating?

Its a little more complicated than that. If you meet the requirements for an ATP you can take the check ride. If you have an L382 on your Faa commercial certificate it will be transferred to your new ATP. I’m not sure it will be under ATP or commercial privileges though. The main thing is to get an unrestricted ATP in a multi engine airplane. It can be in a small multi like a piper Seneca or the C130. Unfortunately, not many examiners have authorization in the C130. The l382 type rating doesn’t help or hurt your application for an unrestricted ATP certificate, you need to get a (military competency) commercial multi instrument rating to take the ATP. In addition your logbooks need to show 1500 hours total time among other things like the required cross country, night, instrument times, pic, etc.

Having a type rating doesn’t affect whether an ATP is restricted or unrestricted. Reference 61.153 and 61.159. If you meet the unrestricted mins hour wise, then you get an unrestricted ATP. If you don’t, you can get a restricted, assuming you meet the mins for that.

The L382 type has nothing to do with the ATP aeronautical experience requirements.

The L382 type will appear on your new ME ATP cert, and it should not be limited to commercial privileges. This is because type rating checkrides are performed to ATP standards, so you already demonstrated that level of performance.

For airline applications, the more type ratings you have the better, especially if they're recent.

sooooo....

Thanks for the replys. Here is what I am thinking from your responses and from my research. Since I have all the time requirements for an unrestricted ATP and a type rating at an ATP level, when I take the ATP CTP and pass the writtens, I am able to apply for an unrestricted ATP.

This military flying thing is so much easier than the airline biz. They have just told me where to go and what to fly for the last 20 years, now I actually have to think for myself. What an idea. Thanks again.

I made some slight edits in the quote above. The type rating doesn’t matter as far as the ATP is concerned. It transfers but is otherwise irrelevant (but adds airline app points). I assume when you said “apply for an unrestricted ATP” you know you have to take the practical (unlike when you take the mil comp commercial written). Just want to specify since the way it was worded had me wondering.
