Career/Job Fair strategy for 2019 ?
 

I separate/retire in May 2020. Plan to attend some career fairs.



Is the Women in Aviation March 2019 career fair "too early ?" Or should I attend both the 2019 and the 2020 fair ?



How about OBAP, I believe in August 2019, how is that timing.



Some have told me "just go on last day of fair, crowds are less" but not sure how to do that, as registration fees seem to be all-or-none fees. Would hate to pay $400 for WAI and only attend one day.


Believe it or not, even considering NGPA.

As long as you’re qualified to get hired 12-18 months out not a bad plan to get to job fairs to get noticed. Sometimes it takes more than one and sometimes you’re not able to get to every company you’re targeting in a single event. Be open to going to any and all job fairs you can make your schedule work for.

Contact Emerald Coast or any of the other pilot prep companies and ask them. I think the job fair system is dying. Delta has their own pilot recruitment events. United has veteran events now and then. American has there own pilot lounge chat system, etc. And by 2020, you WILL get interview invites from some of the big 3 or FedEx, no doubt.

I am in the exact same time situation. I will be doing my ATP in January, and was thinking of hitting up some job fairs but I think they are kinda dying too. What are your hours? What level are you looking at with your hours...regionals, cargo, majors?

If you’ve got the TT and PIC from the military, then frankly, you may not want to spend the time and money at these fairs. Once your apps and resume are tight, focus on getting your internal recommendations, and have them get you your “in” to HR. Fairs are great for general info about the companies and maybe good if you don’t know anyone that works there. However, if you already have connections, then save the money and leverage your connections. For example, if applying to DAL, have a buddy email HR to review your App, for UAL, have a buddy set up a meeting with a chief pilot, (same concept for others) etc. This will prove much more effective and save you time, travel, and conference fees.
