Default Navy VR squadron opportunities

Hi everyone, I知 a navy helo pilot with about 2 years left on my MSR. I plan to separate but apply for a reserve job after I drop my letter and was wondering what is trending at the VR squadrons. My family and I intend to move to Jacksonville after I知 out for various reasons but I知 not trying to limit myself to the commands there. It was my understanding that VRs mostly took pilots from the FW communities but I知 curious if the airline hiring boom has helped prospects for RW pilots. I do plan to apply to non-flying SELRES jobs but I admittedly lack knowledge on the whole SELRES navy besides the Jacksonville squadrons I知 familiar with so I appreciate any guidance. Thank you in advance.

Half the guys in my squadron were helo guys. It’s like rushing a guard unit. Show up and hang, let them know you’re interested. If you’re moving to Jax though I’d look at SELRES RAG IP positions. Stay in your community, teach, be tactical. Have one of the commuter airlines pay for your fixed wing transition (they are) and then mil drop for sanity/quality of life.

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t think about flying as a RAG IP so I’ll definitely consider it. Also, HSM-60 and VT/HT. I should have the mins I need to apply at regionals without doing an RTP so flying at SELRES isn’t a must but I would prefer to fly on my drill days if I can.

I'd agree. I went the VR route back in the '80s. I was a TAR in VR-48 and 56, a SAR in VR-61.

If the hiring situation was as it is today, I'd do exactly what the previous poster described...gone to SkyWest and flown Huey gunships at HAL-5.
