Ya, I should say they asked about it in a roundabout way. So I see you were at X airlines for 2 years but only had XXX (a ridiculously low number) of hours, tell us about that.
I also don't think it's out of line for them to ask if I had any large military obligations in the next X months. I mean they're hiring to do a job, I at least owe them the ability to effectively plan around when to start me and get me through training before I run off to do a one month TDY.

Generally the etiquette in the reserves is that folks take some time off for airline training. I always do, and always allow/encourage my folks to do it.
Now if you have a long invol looming with no way out, I would go ahead and grab that seniority number now and deal with the disruption later, wouldn't give up more than a month or so of seniority for the reserves.

Pilot individual INVOLs are extremely rare in the ANG, in fact, I personally don't know a single pilot who has actually tagged with one. Very few things in the ANG that you can't get out of, even last minute.

Thanks guys!
I'm in the regionals now and finishing up an ANG IPUG. Looking forward to hitting submit on the big airlines button! I've heard some tough stories out of DAL and even AAG (the AAG guy was absolutely trying to play the company though).
Sounds like as long as I'm doing honest work with my regional airline (no super long breaks - boondoggle TDY's) I should be "okay".
Any other tips for an ANG guy?

I wouldn't give up a single day of seniority for the Guard. In fact, a few weeks prior to the start date, I pulled myself from a formal, off-station, IP upgrade because I got an interview invite. The unit that ran the course was willing to let me show up after the interview (it started the day of my interview), but at the time they were putting guys in class within a few weeks. I wasn't willing to pass up an indoc date just to finish out the IPUG, so I pull myself. Funny enough, the guy that filled the spot, got an interview invite the following week at the same airline. He was able to finish but I think gave up a few indoc classes.
I assumed as much.
