Army RW with a C-12 offer
Hi,
I’m heading to Ft. Rucker soon. Will start my RW training and once I finish I will continue with C-12 training as there is where I was moved in my unit. Does having a C-12 background helps boosting my resume ?
I’m currently at a 121 with about 300TT of Turbofan.
4 year degree
CFII/AGII
Part 135 experience 557TT of part 25 turbo prop.
0 checkride failure
My intent is, after I come from Ft. Rucker to put my app in at the legacies/majors, but I don’t have any TPIC.

Yes, I know, I've been in the mil for over 30 years.
As far as the airlines are concerned C-12 time will obviously count towards your FW total, and it's also mil time FW time. But you probably won't be getting a legacy job with 1500 C-12 hours, it's not an F-15 and you didn't do a FW UPT.
Those of us who pay attention have noted the USN/USAF RW pilots have a smoother path to the top majors than USA RW. It appears that the discriminator (aside from possible cultural factors) is FW UPT... all USN/USAF pilots attend that prior to RW training.
Your career progression may resemble a civilian regional pilot... you'll definitely get extra credit for mil wings and mil FW time, but it's probably not going to allow you to bypass regionals. Assume you'll need about 3,000+ FW between mil and regional, and as much PIC as you can get at either job. But anything's possible, definitely apply everywhere you'd like to go and keep your apps updated as soon as meet their respective mins.
Remember, the "baseline" mil pilot coming off active duty after ten years has at least 1,000 TPIC (fighter time is all PIC, others upgrade during their AD). As a reserve/guard baby, you're kind of in a strange place.
You can also try bumming for time vice hitting the regional hard, but a 121 upgrade is a nice box to check... I'd do that when it's available.

Rickair.....your advice couldn't be farther from the truth. Maybe ten years ago, but today Army rw guys with C12 time are all over the place. I'd say United, AA, JB, Alaska, Frontier snap up Army fw guys.
I agree he needs more time, just as an AF fw/upt pilot would, but I think it helps round out his application and potentially get his packet more points.

I’d say the new guy couldn’t be in a better position to progress. It’ll just take some time to build his hours. He will be exposed to some of the stickiest and best flying standards out there by entering the Army’s FWMEQC. I fly with guys from all the Services. OMG. You Army guys, be proud of your training.....it’s top notch. Trust me.
Getting a gig w a regional will most certainly help speed up the process....building time and relevant experience would be the icing on the cake. But, you absolutely can go from “only” Army C-12 (or any of their planes) directly to any Legacy.
Good luck!
