Nobody in the actual chain leaked the email. It was some low-level staffer who had access to the email. Senior officers have assistants who pre-screen their emails, some are GS civilians.

That's why you only use NIPR for the command BBQ invitation.

I have seen a couple issues which I really had heartache over, and addressed it with the chain. One boss agreed and dealt with it, another told me I was right but wouldn't be getting an EOT award for calling out a flag in public. He did rank me 1 of about 30 though. YMMV.

I'm sure there's an opportunity in populist media or somesuch. I'm not so sure he'll lower himself to that.

I should add that I assume he's a great guy (by all accounts he is), and had good intentions. It's even remotely possible he unintentionally wrote and launched the email from the wrong account, he likely had two, perhaps three different classification systems connected to one monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

An excerpt from a 2006 Proceedings Journal article:

"The worst place to have an epidemic, like a fire, is in close quarters far from help, such as a ship on the high seas. . . . During an epidemic, democracy can be a very dangerous form of Government; the need is for a strong Central authority with a grasp of basic Epidemiology." -Alfred W. Crosby, Epidemic and Peace, 1918"

I wonder what China would have looked like if it was in fact a democracy in this case. Freedom isn't free.

The Navy takes some casualties - even in peacetime.

And a carrier deck is the most hazardous occupational environment I’ve ever seen.

The Navy will not reinstate the fired commander of the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier following an investigation of leadership’s handling of a coronavirus outbreak onboard in March.

A congressional aide confirmed to The Hill that the service will uphold its firing of Capt. Brett Crozier, who was removed from his post after a letter he wrote pleading for help with the outbreak leaked in the media.

The Navy will also place a hold on the promotion of Rear Adm. Stu Baker, the one-star commander of Carrier Strike Group 9 and the senior officer onboard the Roosevelt at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak, the source said.

So basically everyone got fired?

The ship CO, the CSG Admiral, and the SECNAV.
