The FAA is known to have on at least a couple of occasions gained access to data downloads of other .gov databases (social security and VA) and apparently run cross checks which resulted in a number revocations and federal prison time.

They way they get around HIPPA is because they're not looking at your *medical* data from other agencies but rather your finances (disability pay) which is fair game. Once they get a hit on disability pay which you din't report to the FAA then they can get a warrant for the medical details. At which point the FAA turns it over to the DOJ since it's a federal felony. They added the question on the form about disability pay about the time this all started... not hard to guess why.

But obviously even that's enough to catch you eventually if you try to game the system. Would probably be better if they did auto-cross check everything up front, so they could clear it all up before issuing medicals. But the way it is now you can definitely get more than enough rope out of the system to hang yourself before the system catches up to you... and it might takes years to catch up.
Thanks Rick, definitely not an issue for me. I’m actually asking in reference to how detailed Wright Patt wants FC1 after having previous FAA medicals. Assume it’s best to be conservative and mention everything and let them decide what’s useful and what’s not. Just didn’t want to skip an appointment I would have listed in getting my FAA First Class renewed and then have WP “bust” me for it.

Going all the way back to my grandfather's era, the tribal knowledge was always don't tell military medicine anything more than you absolutely have to. I don't think that's changed (FAA is very different, and mil guys have gotten in trouble for applying the mil philosophy to the FAA).

it actually says the past three years, which is pretty ridiculous, especially for those of us who have to do the class 1 every six months.

Keep a rolling spreadsheet.

Technically you're supposed to also list preventative care visits like checkups, teeth cleaning, etc but many don't bother and I've never heard of the FAA getting sideways about it. Like many things FAA, the language on the form is half-baked at best. CYA.

Actually, no, you’re not.

“Routine dental, eye and FAA periodic medical examinations and consultations with your employer-sponsored employee assistance program (EAP) may be excluded unless…”

Right you are, that's what it says on the back. My first AME told me I needed to report all, maybe that was the case 30 years ago.

There is a lot of mis-information in this thread. I can't correct it all. As long as your condition doesn't require medication that's not approved, or it's related to PTSD then go for it.

I'm 100% from day one...

I sent the FAA my VA rating package...

They sent back a nice letter saying two common sense things, and asking me to have my blood pressure checked and a written statement about a very miniscule issue every 6 months.

Big deal....it's well worth the $$$$$$$. You earned it...collect it.

If anyone, and I mean ANYONE is hesitant about VA disability, don't be..you are leaving money on the table. I get close to $4000 a month, don't pay a dime in property taxes, and my kids go to college for free....also get free registration on my vehicle and a hunting license.

BLUF:

1. Don't lie to the FAA, people (veterans) have gone to jail for that (recently).
2. Anything mental health/PTSD/TBI related is going to be a big problem.

Nice!!! I recently ended my active duty contract and was hesitant about my va claims affect on my FAA medical. Thanks for the reassurance that it shouldn’t be a problem. I’m starting up TSTC in Waco for airline pilot
