Thank you for your feedback
I was on the civilian path and hoping for a reserve job until the attacks on 11 Sept 2001. I then bit the bullet and accepted the 10 year commitment for Active Duty Air Force. It was a great move for me, I’m proud of my service and worked with fantastic people and got to do some amazing things. I wouldn’t change a thing. That said, I now love my airline job and my USAFR job. It’s a great life and I’m very happy not to be on active duty anymore. As others said there isn’t a recruiting problem, But rather, a retention problem. It’s tough to justify staying in past your initial commitment, when you have the airline option.
So yes, absolutely do pursue a reserve or guard job, fighters, heavy’s…doesn’t matter, it’s worth it.

I may be too old for fighters… but flying anything else fixed wing I still desire to do as it would give me a chance to serve my country and contribute to an other-than-commercial enterprise. Honestly the training looks really awesome as well.
