Missing Man Formation
1967 UC-123 formation returning to Bien Hoa, Vietnam about forty minutes after formation lead aircraft was shot down with the loss of four crew members. All aircraft had numerous hits.

Yep, the close trail (200') in MC-130Ps was a blast to fly, especially when the moon was big and terrain was rugged. Those days are gone, however, with the new changes to the books. Fluid trail is deemed by enough people (myself included) as a much better tactic so that's what we're going to focus on in training. Believe me, DTFL, there were some heated arguments in the halls of the 5th SOS about the subject! I half expected a mob of grey hairs with pitchforks and torches outside my office when the new vol 3 came out.

No photo shop going on. Its the standard parade echelon at 20' by 20' by 20'. Perfectly legal and published in our pubs. I dont think they are as close as they look though. Perfectly stable at 10k in a training MOA. Not really that big a deal.
