As I've said countless times, it was not about safety for 19 y/o AD members, it was about *attempting* to get out from under restrictions to training which were imposed to prevent the AD from spreading covid like wildfire to civilian employees, contractors, dependents, and the community at large. They didn't want the mil to become a huge transmission vector. That was all based on the info they had at the time.
The Federal Government wanted to get as many people vaccinated as they could. You can speculate as to their motivations (satisfying their corporate overlords, etc), but I think it's safe to say it wasn't "health and wellness." Excuses like "based on the info they had at the time" are incredibly disingenuous.
The feds pulled the levers that were closest at hand. Namely, requiring the vax for military members and defense contractors. Lots of people out there taking the King's schilling, and were subject to do what they were told or lose their job.
As always happens, the truth eventually makes its way out. Now the feds, the DoD, and everyone else who was pushing these "vaccines" is forced to backpedal as hard as they can.

The reality is that if the vaccine worked as advertised, Congress wouldn’t have forced DoD to backpedal. There was a lot of messy politics involved, but with recruiting and retention in the toilet and the Pentagon backed into a corner by a foolish order a congressional order was the only way forward. The Covid shot is far from the only thing crushing our ability to man the volunteer force, but it was definitely not helping.
