even so, it’d be nice to find it…

I’d love to hear the pilot’s explanation for ejecting. What was the mishap? I’ve heard plenty of stories of cold shots or CDP failures on the ship where the crew got out but the plane then flew on for a short flight before crashing.

Ebay. Look for an add offering a lightly used "fixer-upper" or "project" F-35.

Or perhaps just the fuzzy dice that hung over the panel. Often sellers like to part these things out.

That area is woods and lakes IIRC, it might not have had to fly far to become very hard to find. I'd guess at least one Navy MDSU is packing up their dive gear for a road trip as we speak.

I think this was land-based ops, nothing to do with ships. It's the F-35B FRS, so might have been a student. F-35B is STOVL, not cat launched.

CARFAX will show extensive water damage.

No problem. Just scratch off the VIN and write a new one in with magic marker. It's okay, now that it's a presidentially approved means of modification.

Glad to hear the pilot got out safely. Regardless the circumstances, I never second-guess a pilots decision to give it back to the tax payers. Much better than the alternative of sticking with it a little too long trying to salvage a bad situation.

Nothing but flat ocean off the coast. Ejected with AP-on. Who knows how long it flew. I doubt it went down over land.

ATC radar may or may not be of any help, depending on if it had radar reflectors installed. I would suspect they would, for routine training, as a flight safety measure.

They're removed for real ops obviously, and some select exercises.
