Default After military

Hey

I know this is an airline thread but since one doesn't have the complete option to choose what you fly in the military, if you were to get posted to a helicopter what options are there once you leave military flying? Do guys usually go for medivac helicopter jobs?

If you're Navy/Marine Corps/Coast Guard I'd try to go back to the VT's after your fleet tour to get your FW/Turbine/PIC.

Heck, I know 3 E-2 NFO's that are flying for airlines now. FW PIC is always good...also, depending on the numbers (in the Navy anyway) there are opportunities (only a few) to switch to a fixed wing community. I did a tour in SH-60B's, then flew E-2's. I've got a couple buds who switched to P-3's after HSL.

In the Army, you can apply to go RC-12's.

What does T-34C time do for your airline resume? Seems like it would count for FW turbine PIC and IP time, but not much else, and for the companies that require FW ME time or miltary SE fighter time, the T-34C probably doesn't buy you the SE fighter time equivalent.

I got the green light from cinchome to take orders to Meridian to build time for the resume, but rumor is there is a draft right now for T-34 instructors at Milton right now.

Are you tactical jet? There is a push to get tactical jet types down here at Milton, especially Marine, at least thats what the rumor is at 6. There is a lack of tactical jet guys down here and tailhookers as well. My community (E2/C2) is starting to push guys down here as well.

First recommendation is don't leave military service (active or Guard/Reserve) prior to getting fixed-wing certified through previously mentioned options (Army RC-12, AF/Navy instructor at primary/advance pilot training base).

Second, if you were to end up in special ops rotors, you would never want to leave. Travel to distant lands, meet wonderful people of exotic cultures, and then kill them. Why quit?

We hired an Army Guard helo pilot into my C-5 reserve unit. He had to attend AF fixed-wing transition (mini-pilot training), then C-5 training, and is now large and in charge flying FRED around the world.

Yeah, Hornets. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the T-34 when I was there. But if I stay in for one more tour, its strictly to build up the resume. I just want to know that if I get offered orders to Milton that the hours I get will help out.

I know of a 16 year LtCol Cobra pilot who just resigned from the Marine Corps and is taking a commission as a WO in the Army to fly spec ops rotors. He apparently lives and breaths sentence number 2 quoted above. That and he wants to be a part of the team that gets UBL.
