Getting out of the Army soon.

Hi, I'm getting out of the Army soon after enlisted for 6 hours as a Apache crew chief. I just got my private pilot's license. I'm thinking about joining the air national guard after I leave, what are the requirements to be a pilot in the ang? I have some college, but don't have my associates yet. Thanks.

You have to have a bachelor degree at a minimum, maximum age before entering training is 30, so 28 for applying, (but age waivers are the easiest to get if you bust the age), you have to take the AFOQT test, and the TBAS, get letters of recommendation, and go through an interview process. Check www.wantscheck.com and www.baseops.net for more information. Good forums and gouge about getting into UPT through the guard.

Do you want to fly fixed wing or rotors? Have you thought about army guard and helos. I believe you can go in as a WO without college, but not totally sure about that. Depending on your age the Air Guard process is long from acceptance to entering pilot training so the age may be an issue unless you can get a waiver. But you will need the degree as zondaracer said. To give you an idea of the time frame, I interviewed and was accepted in July of 06 and I am currently waiting on AMS dates, then off to UPT after. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Wow, they're really cutting down on those enlistment contracts now, huh? ;)

Ditto on the websites...as of now, you have to be able to graduate from UPT before 29, but it IS (just like almost everything else) waiverable, especially since you're prior enlisted. I've heard that the Guard in some cases is able to waive the 4 year degree requirement with some kind of "pledge" to finish before you pin on Captain. No dice without the degree in the Reserves.

You have to start UPT before your 30th birthday. Thats waiverable but considering the competition in the Air Guard, not very likely to happen.

Army warrant officer program does not require any college until you're looking at being competitive for CW4 and CW5. Still not a requirement. Best way in my mind to join the ranks of helicopter pilots and get the best possible RW training and flight experience.
