Question Should I joing national guard after I ETS?

I'm getting ready to ETS from active Army after 6 years of enlistment. Since I have 2 more years of inactive obligation, I'm thinking of joining army national guard? If I do that, do I get more money for college, not including GI bill from active Army? And I think it's a guarantee that I won't get deployed for 2 years. Also, I'm a apache helicopter mechanic currently, what if the guard unit is a non aviation unit? Thanks.

Really, the only person that can answer your questions is a national guard recruiter for the state that you would be drilling in.

I can tell you that some states are paying insane bonuses and benefits plans (GI Bill/Tuition/etc) for reenlistments and prior service folks.

(I was offered approximately $20K tax-free in bonuses to stay in another 4 years...)

I wouldn't count on not getting deployed though...

You got that right!! Recruiters will say ANYTHING to get you to sign on the dotted line. Good luck.

I've heard that prior Active Duty who go Guard/Reserve are still able to participate in the "Top Up" program for their Active Duty GI Bill, and can also get Tuition Assistance...talk to a guard education officer.

Well, I talked to the recruiter. I'm going to be in the 2 year stabilization program. Meaning that I won't get deployed for 2 years. I have that in writing in my contract. Also, I'm going to be working on OH-58 Kiowas. I'm on Apache now.
