As said before, you are protected if you get an AGR job, because you're essentially on AD orders. I know someone who got an airline job and an ART job and dropped his papers after he got to the line. A few years on mil leave never hurt anyone, except the airline of course, but toughskie poopskies. :) If they expect anyone to actually live off first year pay, it serves them right. I wish more people did it. Lets see. $30,000 or active duty Lt/Captain pay for the year?
