Default ANG Part time pay

Does any one have any idea of how much a part ANG guy makes. I know it can vary significantly but I was once told that if you do the minimum required by the guard that you'll make about 20k a yr. Does that sound right? I'm AD now but wanting to Palace Chase and do the airlines. I know the airlines dont pay much that first year or two so I'm trying to see what I can expect from the Guard...

Thanks

Tip,
I'm weighing my options with the Palace Chase thing right now too. I've got a bud with the Phoenix Guard who pulls in about 30K a year without volunteering for everything that comes his way. Everything I've heard so far points to the 20-40K range. Have you turned in any PC paperwork? I'd be interested to hear what the typical commander's reaction is. Hate to get blackballed for the rest of my career, but if it means putting up with less bs I guess it's probably worth trying anyway. Have you applied with any units yet? I hear that it's pretty easy to get hired on as a traditional these days, but never had it confirmed. Keep us updated and good luck.

No, I havent put in any paperwork yet but I did call the PC office at Randolph. Unfortunately they told me that the AF didnt need anyone in my yr grp (02 Capt) to seperate. The only thing that may be in my favor is that half the C-5 are going to the guard so there may be an excess of C-5 pilots...

I know what you mean about getting black balled. My CC says we should feel free to tell him if thats what were thinking but to go PC is still announcing you want out of AD and I dont see leadership looking at you the same as someone trying to stay in...and if your package isnt approved then you're "that guy that tried to get out..." However, I had a friend who PCd a few months back and his CC was very supportive. I guess it really comes down to who your CC is.

Guys I just recieved my DOS for Palace Chase. It took all of about 2 weeks once I decided to do it.

So you know if you are going to do it 29 Sep is the LAST day for thr force shaping PC (2 for 1 payback) so if you're thinking about it you need to do it sooner than later.

I did it this past summer. I'm making 3k/month in the USAFR and another 1500 from UPS. Remember there are 2 programs out there: force shaping is a HQ USAF administered program and PC is an AFPC run program. Apply under force shaping and the decision maker is someone in the Pentagon and PC is decided by Randolph. You can apply for both. If you really want to grab a pair, you can get out. It's a risk that is worth it!!

Lil J

Do you have to fly a lot with your reserve unit to make that 3k? How many days a month do you give the Reserves? I'm basically trying to figure out if I can fly 70+ hrs w/ an airline and still have enough time to make 2-3K a month in the guard...without running myself into the ground...

LJ, are you sure about that? I did a "normal" PC and my approval authority was the SECAF personnel office at the Pentagon. If I had done "Force Shaping" then the decision maker was the PC office, which would rubber stamp whatever my functional manager recommended - which would have been a resounding "no," which I found out after I called him and before I sent in my application. So, I applied, VERY SPECIFICALLY SO THE MPF PEOPLE WOULD NOT F THIS UP (all caps for those of you thinking of applying) for "normal" Palace Chase so that the decision would be made at the Pentagon. In addition, I thought you could only apply for one at a time. For all you potential PC'ers out there, contact the PC office at Randolph, they're all pretty helpful with it. It helped me that I had a letter from the Reserve unit I planned on joining, as well as a well-thought out personal letter stating why I wanted to PC to this particular unit and why it was good for the AF and the USAFR.

On a second note, I'm trying to track down my "Official" reserve ADSC. I did a 2 for 1, but my profile on vMPF is showing N/A for service obligation. Any ideas on where I might find this info out?? I've heard some odd stories out there about reserve commitments getting mixed up, lost, changed, etc.

Deuce--I was the expert when I went through the process about the same time you did. However, I have not kept up woth the ever changing rules. If you want off of AD now is the time though. There are different paths to the same goal. The MPF folks are not the ones you need to talk to. Contact the higher ups at AFPC directly. CMSgt Susan Allick (sp) at AFPC gave me the straight scoop which contradicted everything the illeterate SSgt at the MPF told me.

Shack. For all of you potential PCer's, Chief Allick is THE authority and is extremely knowledgeable. There are some others in her office (McMillan, I think, for one) who are just as helpful. Once you have the info from her or her staff, you can then direct your MPF people on exactly how and what to do to get your stuff approved. It also helps to talk to the inhouse reserve/guard recruiter early and often throughout the process.
