This old thread applies to me, so I figure I'd ask in the right place: will it make a big difference to go T-45s versus T-6 when trying to build resume for a job after the military? Are Meridian / Kingsville guys set up better than the Whiting / Corpus T-6 guys? Is it worth a longer IUT syllabus to go jets versus T-6? Thanks

I've been an IP in Kingsville for 5 years. Everyone I know who's wanted one has gotten an interview at a major. Everyone except one guy has gotten a job. I know of more T-6 IPs that still seem to be looking or have had to go to the regionals to build time or get 121 stink.
As far as flying goes, if you want the chance to fly by yourself a lot, go T-45s. Also, you'll get to be "tactical" a lot sooner than in T-6s, where teaching formation is reserved for senior dudes instead of the newest IP straight from the IUT.
Feel free to PM me.

There was a time maybe 5-6 years ago where the wording on the fedex.pilotcredentials application implied that T-6 time wasn't acceptable toward the (formerly required) 1,000 hour MTPIC minimum, but FedEx later clarified that even though the T-6 is a single-engine turboprop less than 12,5, time in it fit the requirement. Plus, that former 1000 MTPIC requirement is only a recommendation now.
Has something recently come out from Pilot Hiring in Memphis that changes this?
There are plenty of FedEx pilots who were T-6 IPs...and their time "counted" when they applied (and were subsequently hired).

FWIW,
Ups wants (prefers) 1000 PIC turbine multi OR 1000 PIC jet. My son got caught up in that...he was able to apply with his T6 time (well over 1000 PIC/IP) but only had about 500 PIC in 130s. I talked to the people in hiring and they wanted the 1000 multi PIC with the amount of overqualed folks with heavy time (i.e. Atlas).
So in the case of ups, you would be better off with the T45 time at least in regard to ups.

What's your source for this?

If they count T-6 time now that's great, but when I met with them at WAI in 2016 they specifically said they only cared about time >12.5k pounds.

Hopefully you understand there's a substantial difference in meaning between that requirement listed on pilotcredentials and the statement, "they only really count time in planes heavier than 12,500 pounds."
