Fighter Training?
Hey Everyone,
I've been looking around the internet and I can't seem to get an answer to a question: How many years does it take to become a Fighter Pilot?...From moment one joins the military with no flight experance, to the time they are behind the wheel of an F-18? Always, Dreamer |
Can't answer your question, but I'm pretty darn sure FA-18's don't have a steering wheel... :p
|
Took me just under 3 years in the Navy. Thats from reporting to OCS to reporting to the the F-18 RAG. The shortest time I have heard is 2 years but that all depends on luck and timing.

2-3 years for the AF.

If I am not mistaken, Dreamer's dream is to fly the CF-18 at Cold Lake. Is the Canadian system different? [And I don't mean that those planes have a steering wheel. Or maybe they do, eh? :)]
|
Probably not going to find a lot of Canadian F-18 pilots on this site. Not sure any of the American fighter dudes can answer that question accurately.
|
USMC has an exchange with the Canadians........from what I have heard from those guys, primary/advanced flight training is about the same. With no delays, just under 2 years from start to the FRS. FRS syllabus is the same minus the ship so you're looking at 7 months for the Hornet program.

I stand corrected.
