Is Sim time good for anything to an airline?

I've done a search on the forum already regarding sim time, and found posts asking "if sim time can count towards TT"? I've found the answers in these posts to be a resounding "no".

I'm just curious if any of the sim time is useful at all to an airline? for instance, would any of the PIC time count in a sim (for crew or non-crew aircraft)?

As I'm fine tuning my logbook for next year, I'm basically just wondering if I should even waste my time including any sim data or not.

For those of you who are already out there in the airline system, I'd appreciate any inputs, thanks! :)

Nope, just keep it logged in the simulator column for posterity's sake but don't add it to anything else.

I would go with useless. The only time I had my students log sim time was if it were for the instrument minimums for the rating and it was only logged as sim imc. It can be used in the same aspect to meet minimums for your ATP or 135 mins. More than likely though most pilots imc totals are 10% or so of their TT so with 135/ATP mins you should be there anyway.

Long story short, airlines do not care about sim time.

what sucks even more is with the way fuel costs are going, they are talking about doing more training in the sims, maybe even ALL locals!

if sim time counted for something i'd be sucking up all the ATTs

Hi!

Definitely keep your sim time separate.

Some airlines, like mine, count your sim time towards you upgrade to capt time, and some will use it towards TT (mostly regionals and other small places).

At my airline, U don't kneed to include mil sim time towards TT, because mil guys have no mins. If U graduated from a mil pilot program (FW or RW) U are in!

Trans States is the same way, if U graduated from a FW mil program.

C17s just got new training tables. Well, I just got new training tables, not sure how long they've been out there. Anyway, a cursory glance indicates I can fly a few sims a year and occasionally look at a photo of a C17 and remain current.

That is the problem with our community. Apparently the sim is now realistic enough to support this. I still think the sim sucks, and can't imagine what it is going to be like when dudes a/r in the sim for a while then need to load up 120k over the black sea at night. I still think sim time is useless, as with most on this thread.

I don't think the sim is useless, though I'm pretty sure time in the sim is useless from a getting hired by airlines point of view.

Sim AR has gotten amazingly better in the past few years, but I think being able to log more in sim vice aircraft is a mistake. From my personal point of view, I just can't make myself care in sim, no pucker factor.

For other things though, I think the sim is fantastic training. The dial a death stuff is good, depending on sim instructor, and for the young bubbas it's great for instrument work as well.

I WISH that was true. trying to stay current in the C-17 is the biggest pain especially for us reservists. and im just talking about airland not even airdrop.

Not to mention every freaking trip is a 14 day SRT stage. JC i cant take mil leave every month its out of control. I say bring on more sim time and screw locals they are a giant waste of time.
